The gardens were neglected, particularly the rose garden. The Italian garden lacked color. The ruins were not atmospheric but merely depressing. We left without visiting the house. It seemed understaffed.

Wonderful mansion and grounds. The mansion is mostly restored, and original. The kitchen is missing, but the rest of the rooms are great. The staff is friendly and helpful. There's a Japanese style garden on the grounds as well as a formal garden. There's a...More

Stunning landscape design and horticulture. If you like Japanese horticulture, there is a section dedicated to Japanese design. Besides horticulture, the mansion is also open to see.

The mansion was one of 5 homes owned by the Thompson's! A real step back in time. My 13 year old daughter and I spent the day here and had a great time. She wants to go back just to eat at the Cafe (...More

The house here is gorgeously restored -- a Gilded Age gem that, like many, has had a checkered past. Nice that the "tram" -- guess a kind of golf cart seating maybe eight -- driven by a kind volunteer whisked us around the extensive grounds...More

The place is somewhat unkempt, but not in a bad way. Some of the features are ruins, but that only heightens the experience. During my visit, the greenhouses were under renovation. There was a buggy to carry people around, but it is probably most useful...More

Wonderful place for a stroll around the grounds. Would still give it a 4-rating for off season visits, for the house tour, but if you can, go when the grounds are in bloom. THat's the real star attraction here.

We visited in May 2018, many trees and flowers in bloom, a beautiful place. The Mansion was also very interesting to see. We had a nice lunch at their cafe. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. Well worth the reasonable price of admission

Sadly my visit was very disappointing. I had searched their website prior to the visit for admission cost information and was unable to find any. For 14 dollars I would have reconsidered my visit. It was early in the season so I did not expect...More

We are sorry you did not enjoy your visit. Our wooden structure greenhouse complex is a rarity. It was built by Lord & Burnham more than 100 years ago and very few of these structures are still in existence. It takes specialized and expensive care...More
