More
The First Natural Gas Lighthouse. Finished in 1829, the 40-foot tall Barcelona Lighthouse (Portland Harbor) was the very first natural gas lighthouse in the country. It was in Federal Lighthouse Service until 1859. At that time it became privately held through various owners until 2008, when New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation acquired it. Though it no longer has the original lens, nor is used for navigational purposes, it is still lit and visible today through an agreement with the Town of Westfield. The lighthouse is listed on the U.S. National Register of Historical Places. The Keeper's cottage is open in a joint partnership with the Town of Westfield Visitor Center and a seasonal weekend docent with NYS Parks. The lighthouse itself is not open to public ascent due to structural issues at this time.

Lighthouse is right on highway 5. Quick turn into the boat ramp facility and it is an easy walk to the light. Nice grounds and a pleasant view.

We stayed right across the street from this little light house unfortunately it wasn't; open to go in but beautiful to look at.

You can't actually go up into the lighthouse, but the local chamber of Commerce is set up in the light keepers house. The lady working the day we stopped in was very friendly and helpful and gave us many useful pointers for things to do...More

The history of this lighthouse is remarkable, as the lighthouse was never actually used! It is not open to the public, but you are welcome to stroll the grounds and even have a picnic there (picnic tables overlook the lake). The Chamber of Commerce is...More

A must for light house lovers. It's best viewed from a distance. Was surprised my 6 and 8 year old granddaughters liked it.

The Barcelona Lighthouse is best appreciated from a distance at the harbor park & pier. The lighthouse is now the chamber of commerce visitor center. There is plenty of parking on the pier with picnic tables, restroom facilities (summer), and tourist info (summer) onsite. The...More
