Rented 42 foot canal barge at Mid Lakes navigation in Macedon, NY. Headed west, left Wednes afternoon, returned Sunday morning. Nice slow relaxing trip, quaint towns and good restuarants along the way. Would be great for families, seniors, honeymooners, bikers, hikers, drinkers.

The Erie canal is steeped in history and offers miles of canal views. Do your research and see how history was made with the creation of the Erie Canal.

Walking along the canal is peaceful and relaxing. A wonderful way to enjoy nature. There are also boat rides available, boat rentals and canoes or kayaks available along the way.

Along this path you will find cute towns to stop in and shop locally as well as some quiet area where you can stop for a picnic or just a quick break from walking or bike riding.

Spring & Fall are iffy weather-wise...unless you're unbothered by rain/rain showers. September is the month I suggest.

Yes, there are lodging choices nearby. Closest is Hampton Inn Rochester-Penfield. Nicest [my opinion], still pretty close & reasonably priced, is Woodcliff Hotel & Spa in Fairport. Enjoy!!
