Definitely a must visit. The history is fascinating, as is the engineering. I cannot imagine how they dug these canals by hand in the 1800's!! These are a work of art.

What a fantastic way to see the country! Traveling by boat across NY state. You see things you would never see from a car. Rent a canal boat. It comes with bikes to ride on the tow-path.

There are very nice parks along the canal in the Rochester area and probably throughout the state. I thoroughly enjoy kayaking various segments of the canal especially in Fairport NY area.

Had read and viewed documentaries of this masterpiece of civil engineering. Interesting to see how it has become a part of the landscape. Without signs it could be mistaken for a natural river. The thing that made NYC so important.
