Fire Island and the light house are great places to visit. My buddies and I ferry across the bay and "Hang Out" at the Pines and Cherry Grove. Fire Island is my favorite summer time place!

Very interesting and stimulating with delightful views in every direction from the top of the light. Plus, just wonderful volunteer staffers at every turn, from the lighthouse itself to the main museum spaces, and on to the fresnel lens display building. Lots of interesting stuff...More

Very nice walk to the lighthouse in a series of boardwalks through the dunes. Climb the tower and get a view of the Manhattan skyline on a clear day. The museum upstairs is small but nice

A balmy Sunday in February got us out to the lighthouse. Park at field 5 and walk the boardwalk to the lighthouse. Deer along the way. Great view from the top and an interesting free museum

What a great site to visit, worth the walk. I go there all times of the year, all hours. There is a ton of wildlife. Caution at dusk in the spring....a lot of baby deer.

It's abit of a walk to the lighthouse from the parking aera, but it's worth it, I was here on a windy, so we couldn't up, but still the museum and the surrounding nature is spectaculair.

Since Hurricane Sandy many changes have occurred on Long Island. The Fire Island Lighthouse has been in renovation to fix the base which holds it above the sand dunes. The new boardwalk takes you on a beautiful stroll through the marshland where you view deer,...More

I took my daughter here because we see this place in the distance numerous times. There is a lot of history here. If you climb to the top of the lighthouse, you will get a certificate.

Questions & AnswersAsk a question
Is the walk to the lighthouse accessible even if the lighthouse is closed for tours? I'll be there next week with my daughter on Thursday, but it looks like it's only open on weekends during winter. I'd still like to walk around it if possible.

Yes, even if they closed the lighthouse accessible, you still can walk around out there. It's a nice peaceful place to visit, just leave before the sky goes dark, It might be dangerous that you can't see the road back.
