Especially if you have a boat... go to sailors haven. Great new marina for you to dock your boat. There is a great little souvenir shop, eatery, with tables outside to grab a bite or coffee. And then take the hike to the sunken forest....More

I make it a point on every visit to Fire Island to spend a day wandering around this ecological masterpiece. It is what the name says-a sunken first. You really have to see it to believe it. Just stunning.

It is just what you think - a Sunken Forest that is naturally protected by the dunes. Boardwalks are built through the whole place so it is easy to walk and see everything. The whole experience at a stroll will take about 30 minutes.

BRING BUG SPRAY! I'm not talking the all natural kknd, serious mosquitos! Walk is beautiful but not enjoyable because of mosquitos. I would try again, possibly in cooler weather

This is a beautiful green area on fire island between the bay and the ocean. It has a few trails you can take on your own or join a guided tour with ranger. It's peaceful and you can run into wildlife--deer, fox, squirrels and Mosquitos....More

A small hidden forest on Fire Island lets you experience something completely unforgettable. You take a ferry here from Sayville and that is where the adventure begins. Docking in Sailors Haven you can head to a visitors center which gives you plenty of information about...More
