Experience a taste of life on a 19th-century estate when you visit this...

Experience a taste of life on a 19th-century estate when you visit this National Historic Landmark. Once a working farm, the house and surrounding grounds are now open seasonally for guided tours. Built in 1839, the elegant Greek Revival house was the center of a busy and productive farm by mid-century. Much of the tour focuses on the Swan family, in residence from 1850 to 1890. Through family letters, photographs, and diaries, explore the family's joys and sorrows and their interactions with neighbors and the many workers required to keep the large house and farm in working order. Trained as a merchant, discover how Robert Swan combined business methods of organization with scientific innovations like drain tile to make his farm more productive and profitable. See twenty rooms restored and furnished in the Empire style, popular from the 1820s to 1850s. Enjoy the magnificent view of Seneca Lake from the front porch and the vista of nearby farmlands.Rose Hill Mansion Gift Shop features a selection of locally produced food products, historically themed gifts and hand crafted items. Be sure to visit the tasting room Billsboro Winery operates on site.Open May 1 to October 31. Tuesday-Saturday, 10am-4pm; Sunday, 1-5pm. Closed Mondays.

Owned and maintained by the Geneva Historical Society, this magnificent building is furnished with period pieces. Well-versed docents share the home's history, from it's golden era, through years of neglect and on to its resurrection of today! It's setting is idyllic, over looking the largest of the Finger Lakes, Seneca.

Nice little gift shop before you go out on a tour. Didn't realize it was a longer tour than we wanted but the nice lady took us on a shorter because we couldn't stay for the long one. Very informative, and very interesting, looking at period furniture and finding out the history of Rose Hill. The lady really squeezed in... More

Since we were in the neighborhood, we took the opportunity to visit the mansion. The 1-hour guided tour gave us a glimpse of the lifestyle and furnishings of the 19th century period. The tour was informative and educational and worth the time.

Although we did not explore inside the mansion, just missed the tour, we did explore the grounds. Lovely spot and beautiful views. Peeked through the windows. Looks like a return visit may be in order.

Had a wonderful tasting experience and relaxed on the outdoor patio. Had engaging conversation with outdoor bartender and wished we'd arrived sooner in the season since by our visit they discontinued dockside service. The mansion also has B&B rooms for rent.

I think you have us confused with some place else. While Billsboro Winery's Tasting Room at our site has a small outdoor seating area they do not have an outdoor bar nor do we have publicly accessible lakeside property, much less a dock. The mansion is a museum and no rooms are available for rent. It is viewable by guided... More

Given that I have toured so many first-rate mansions and manors all over the U.S., I found Rose Hill to be a little bit underwhelming. Perhaps my expectations were too high. I visited on a day when there were no other tourists, so I got essentially a “private” tour (still at the scheduled time). It was a gorgeous day so... More

We are glad that you enjoyed your tour and your tour guide's presentation. Do keep in mind that this is the house of a well-off, well-connected, but essentially rural and small-town family. While they had the pedigree, they did not have the wealth of the (to them) nouveau-rich Vanderbilts or Carnegie. The decor and treasures to be found in those... More

On vacation we had this historic home on our to do list and weren't disappointed. Our tour guide was very nice and informative and the mansion was beautiful. Also included in your very reasonable admission price is a wine tasting in the adjacent shop on the property. Not being great wine connoisseurs the lady providing the wines was very helpful... More

My new husband and I visited during our weekend stay at Geneva for something to do other than a winery, brewery or hiking. We were pleasantly surprised by the tour and lasted about 1 hour. The staff member was very knowledgeable and entertaining. We even got a free ticket for a wine tasting over at Billsboro winery. It is worth the... More
