I've been to Lake Kariba twice now. My husband grew up in Zimbabwe and has very fond memories of this place. My first experience here was so-so as we stayed on a houseboat over new years while I was pregnant (not the best idea). My second time I feel like I was able to really see it for what it... More

Kariba can be extremely hot. I experienced the scorching temperature of 33 degrees in the assumed coldest month of the year. Despite this hot weather , it can't take away the joy of viewing one of the biggest man made lakes. The civil structure of dam wall is ever amazing. Tip: visit around April for the flood gates opening on... More

Kariba, the riveria of Zimbabwe. Its not the sea coast and you can't swim in the lake because of crocodiles, hippos and other 'nasties'. With the current state of the Zimbabwean economy the place is dead. Dozens of houseboats are ideal and its such a shame to see what was once a thriving town dead or dying. There are plenty... More

We and a group of friends, 10 of us in all, recently spent 4 nights on 'Sundowner' houseboat. We, Zimbabweans, have not been to Kariba for years, and the whole experience was as magical as we remembered. The crew on board were excellent and they were not intrusive in any way while going about their many jobs. Food was great... More

Having said that. The views are incredible. It's so peaceful . There's wildlife everywhere, wildlife I'd only ever seen in a zoo before. The dam is awesome. ZPC Kariba also play in the township if you like football and want a fun Saturday afternoon.

24 of us, from the UK, have just returned from a 2 week trip to Zimbabwe. Our group included 7 children, (the youngest turning 5 whilst we there). Some were nervous about visiting a country which gets bad press but all left loving the country, the people and the experience. The highlight for most was a 4 day stay on... More

There's not a huge amount to do other than kick back on one of the house boats and enjoy the scenery and wildlife. Saw heaps of elephants and hippos at various points of the tour. The boat also had a swimming cage which was cool knowing there are crocs everywhere. The weather was stifling hot when we traveled and the... More
