We weren't prepared, but had a great time hunting for Herkimer Diamonds. We thought that it would be like so many other places that you went in and it would be ok. We plan on going back to really hunt for diamonds with all the...More

You can dig above ground on the walls or simply walk around the rubble after a rain storm and look for the sun glistening off the the quartz diamonds laying on the surface. Lots of fun.

A lot of work, a lot of money for very little return. Sounded like fun, got to cross an item off my bucket list -- but not sure that I would do it again. Maybe if I knew what I was doing; maybe if I...More

The mines were a lot of fun and the kids (14 & 9) had a great time smashing rocks to try to find the treasures inside. They give you a small sledgehammer-if you want better tools you’re allowed to bring them. Definitely wear eye protection...More

This is a great place to be a treasure hunter! Usually you can find 2 or 3 or even a lot more! Why not find one for your new fiance and have it cut into a diamond shape? Would mean more than any bought diamond...More

The positives: kids love wacking rocks with hammers, and the $12 sluicing option guarantees that they'll have something to take home (option of herkimer diamonds, gemstones, or fossil bags). The negatives: you only get a hammer. No chisel, no safety glasses. Just kids with hammers....More

If you try you will find crystals here. I have tried all the mines but this is the one with the clearest crystals. You can either break rocks or scavenge through the dirt to find them. If you do work the wall you will need...More

John, thank you for visiting the Herkimer Diamond Mines. We're currently working on the completion of our newest addition, Miners' Village. The village will have a Village Hall and cafe, along with a village store and schoolhouse. We will also be building a barn that...More

It started out to be a great adventure that quickly turned dangerous. Everyone was given a rock hammer. When hammering rocks pieces of the rock fly in all directions. Mining for diamonds requires proper gear. We should never have done this dressed the way we...More

We are sorry about your unfortunate injury and we are very pleased that Jordan was able to assist you. When rock hammers are given out, goggles are always recommended for usage, as well as, closed-toed shoes. We take safety very seriously in our mines and,...More

I don't think there is a particular schedule. My understanding is after Ted & crew have mined on the right side, debris is moved to the left side where the public "mines" .
