Very well done site showing how the Damara people lived and teaching their young folk their ways. Asked one of the guides where he lived. He said " Only two K up the road, got a fridge and wifi." Classic. Lovely people.

An open-air living museum, undoubtely the best place to experience the genuine Damara culture, way of life and traditions. Definitely a must see. Very informed and well prepared guides, many activities available. Amazing songs and dances at the end of a very interesting visit. Traditional,...More

We popped in to the Living Museum on an impulse, and ended up spending nearly 1 1/2 hours there. There is a choice of visiting the "modern" village as well, which we did. This consists of 4-5 shacks where the extended family that runs the...More

Of course it's all for tourists. But still it's quite informative and at the same time it was a lot of fun fur us and for the exhibitors. One of the best experiences in the whole Namibia

This is a wonderful place to learn about the Damara tribe directly from them. Everyone was friendly and we learned so much about their people, culture, and lifestyle. It was a very unique and special experience.

More interesting to me than the rock art was the Damara village museum, also in Twyfelfontein. Our village guide, wearing nothing more than a goatskin skirt and a few beads, took us round the village where we met his blacksmith, his pharmacist (herbal remedies only),...More

Excellent way to spend an hour, really interesting to meet the people and get some idea of the lifestyle in this remote corner of the world

We took the advice of some Dutch tourists who suggested our kids would enjoy the experience. We appreciated their openness; explaining that they now lived modern lifestyles but did want show others how they lived in the past. The singing and dancing was well done....More

Rather fun with very enthusiastic locals showing off their tribal life style. Life has certainly changed (for the worse) when local Africans now wear often shabby western dress, compared with their former practical tribal attire.

This is a "living museum" of the Damara people of Namibia. They demonstrate their art, fire-making skills, herbalism, and dances. Looking at this place from the outside (the parking lot) it does not look like there is much to see. But there is, once you...More
