The fact you are allowed to take your 4x4 into this otherwise untouched wilderness is simply amazing, once you are away from the tour cars you are onyour own in one of the worlds largest deserts, safe in the knowledge you were signed in and they know you are there The dand driving can be challenging, top tip, ensure you... After you enter the Park, which is about a 4-5 hour drive from Windhoek along good-quality dustroads, you will continue driving along a tarmac road into the Sossusvlei & Deadvlei park. You will be driving (or driven) along the floor or, more accurately, the “floodplain” of the Tschaub River (the first four letters are pronounced as a “click” sound by... More

When you are in the Namib, Deadvlei will definitely be your favorite. It is so alien that evokes out of this world thoughts! Is it beauty or is it death? Mummified acacia trees stood still in the heat of the sun, drawing shadows that render the place eeriely strange. The color hues of gold, sand and black converge into a... More

Great place to walk and look and think. Early morning the best time with less people between the trees (which makes for better picture opportunities) and cooler to walk the short distance from parking area to pan. The only drawback is the extremely poor condition of the toilet facilities which forces people to "use" nature which, unfortunately, is evident all... More

Our recent visit to the Sossusvlei was accompanied by perfect weather and a hot air balloon ride. This is a must if you can get there

The main target of my latest visit to Namibia was to get a "desert experience" and this was exactly what I had hoped for. My driver collected me from the lodge early (for better photography and less mid-day heat) and we drove into picturesque desert! Constantly changing scenery around me - dunes of different shapes and colours, twisted trees, mysterious... More

Quite a distance to travel but well worth it. Stay at a camp near by and go early morning. Gates open at 6am. Drive to Deadvlei. You can catch a shuttle if you don't have 4x4. Walk about 1k to deadpan to see the ancient trees and the white ground. Stunning photography opportunities. Wear walking shoes , soft sand, take... More
