Excellent educational opportunities (including exhibit on natural sound recordings), beautiful viewing area out onto the pond with scopes. Nice variety of trails, mostly through wooded habitat. Nice little gift shop. Beautiful location just at the edge of Ithaca.

Beautiful area to walk on gentle trails. If you want to see birds go early in day or later. We were there at 12 and saw about 3 birds.

We love going to the guided walks on weekends at the Orinthology Labs at Cornell. It's not only peaceful & beautiful, it's informative & a great way to enjoy a nice cool walk in the woods with my husband.

Sapsucker Woods is wonderful place to visit. You can learn everything you ever wanted to know about birds inside, then take a walk around the pond. It's an easy walk, and very beautiful. I love that it's quiet and not crowded. You can stroll through at your leisure or walk fast for some exercise. I highly recommend it to anyone!

The Lab of Ornithology (fondly referred to as the Bird Lab) is a treasure. To begin with, you can borrow very high quality binoculars at the front desk. Do so, because the birds are phenomenal. In addition, there are also guided tours that you can sign up for; wonderful. If you don't feel like walking, you can sit inside the... More

As backyard birders we got a kick out of this place. We've been to Bluebird symposiums in Ohio where one of the speakers worked at the Cornell lab of ornithology, so this was really full circle for us. We browsed inside at the different collections, especially admired the hummingbird one. Loved the artwork on the wall of the world geographical... More

Hello yellowradio, Thanks for sharing your thoughts about the Cornell Lab. We are glad you enjoyed your experience here! Your comments about the traffic on Sapsucker Woods road is well-received. Unfortunately, it is a public road; neither the Lab nor Cornell have any authority to implement any traffic calming measures. Occasionally there is an police car that will sit along... More

I love this place! I've been visiting it for over 20 years, and it keeps getting better. The newest addition is a gigantic wall mural of the world with birds superimposed over the continents along with line drawings of their prehistoric ancestors. A built-in iPad on the second floor lets you choose a bird, read about its history and habits,... More

We were able to walk one of the trails, easily. Although we did not see many birds that day, I enjoyed the walk and I would try again another day if I were in the area again.

I wish I had more time here. I wish I had had the time to stay and watch the movies that were offered. As it were, we walked the boardwalk and saw a few birds and wildlife (chipmunks). We did not see as many birds as I would have liked. Perhaps it was too hot that day or cloudy, or?... More

Hi Anita, Thanks for the five-dot ratings despite the lack of birds :). Glad you enjoyed your visit! Mid-summer can be a tougher time to observe birds, especially if you visit in the middle of the day. The building is open 10-4, but the best time to visit the trails in July for bird activity is probably dawn or dusk. More

Had no idea just how much went on at Cornell in the biology / nature fields. Amazing collection of specimens beyond just birds. Knowledgable young tour guide and nice bird watching trails. Worth the trip if you love biology and nature.
