We borrowed an Empire Pass from our library for the weekend. We would not have paid ten dollars to park on such a cloudy day, but were willing to risk getting rained on since we had the pass. It was wonderful to be able to...More
$10/CAR entrance fee. Once you pay, there is no help around that we could find. You have to ask for a map and then the map is very difficult to read. At the minimum, there should be a color coded board that you could refer...More
We were looking for a park to do a quick hike on the way down from a wedding in Lake George, NY. We didn’t want to do anything lengthy, just an easy hike up to 2 hrs. Well this place was perfect! There are a...More
This is a beautiful pristine park that has something for everyone. I highly recommend everyone pack a picnic and explore for the day! I would bring or wear footwear that you can cool off in the clear crisp streams that are bubbling through the trails.
We visited Awosting Falls, and then walked up to Minnewaska Lake, over to Kempton Ledge, back on the east side of the lake, and then back down to the lower parking lot. The trails are very wide (they call the "carriage trails"), and easy to...More
This is the one the most beautiful preserves I have ever been to. There are so many beautiful books and crannies I can even describe. A breathtaking trail is to the waterfalls. The waterfall trail is pretty short down to the bottom. You can push...More

I'm not really an expert on Uber/Lyft in the MHV, but I would expect it would be pretty straightforward to get from the train station to the park. Returning is probably also pretty straightforward, but you're probably going to have to wait 20-30 mins for your Uber to arrive, since they're likely going to have to drive out from POK to get you. Whether you go out to the park, or come back, the Uber driver is going to have to do one full round trip, so seems like either way should be about the same "difficulty".

I'm not a real expert on this park, but I can provide some answers to your questions, maybe others could provide more info too. With a stroller and small children, you should be able to get to the Awosting falls without too much difficulty, from the Lower Awosting parking lot (you can search for all these places on Google Maps). The Trapps Trail, which leads to the bottom of the falls is a little bit steep coming back up, but should be managable, even with a stroller. You'll want to go down that path because you can't really see the falls from the top without leaving the path, which wouldn't be recommended with small children & a stroller. You'll want a stroller with those larger wheels though, that you can push on an unpaved path. It's also quite nice to park up by Minnewaska Lake, and walk on the paths around the lake. This is very easy to do, and you can choose how far you want to go before turning around (or going around the whole lake). The lake is a very scenic place to visit. Have fun!
