It was our third time in Bahir Dar. We met our guide Gelagay/Gigi in the morning and our trip by boat to the monasteries was great. We saw hippos and enjoyed our time on the lake very much.

It is amazing to have the chance to see where the Nile starts. You can see hipos, beautiful monasteries in their islands and the view is great.

This was a nice surprise. Pelicans and hippos. The boat operators want to show you 3,4,5 monasteries during the day. We said one is enough and took it easy. We brought picnic which was a very good thing.

A trip to one monastery was enough - be very sure to pay 200 birr or less - the rip-off of Ethiopia exists here too.
