The authentic, original Source of the Nile Site, where the British Explorer Speke first discovered the River Nile (of course the Africans knew there was a river, but anyway..). Stand where he stood, take a picture with the monument, go for boatrides across the river nile and into Lake Victoria, see monkeys, monitor lizards, pythons (and maybe even an authentic African Witchdoctor). The site also allows for camping, nature walks, parties and occasions with a truly spectacular nature setting. Ideal for Birdwatching and anyone looking for 1 day tour in the Ugandan Countryside.

when someone stands near or at the Speke monument can easily and clearly see how the water starts moving and flow away from the lake which is amasing and interesting

The east side tourist attraction (near Jinja) is overpriced and depressing but the west side destination -Source of the Nile,Living waters, where Speke monument is located,is quiet and low key. These should be separate listings. I'd give Speke monument 5 stars

Source of the Nile River has always been hotly contested. Nile is the longest river in the world having length of 6850 km and passing through eleven countries. South Americans claim that Amazon is the longest river while Africans claim Nile to be the longest river. It is also disputed as to where the Nile starts. However, generally it is... More

An interesting visit to one of the sources of the Nile, where Lake Victoria ends and the Victoria Nile starts

The boat ride out was quite nice, but the destination was not very exciting. It's worth doing if you are in the area, but it is not worth a special trip.

This may have been exciting once but there is not much to see as the dam just a bit downstream has removed any falls of particular interest.

By all means visit the source of the Nile. It's kind of like a bucket list thing. Or, if your schoolboy head was full of African explorers and tales of Livingstone et al, then you will love this place. You have to endure an awful track to get there but its worth the effort. The memorial itself is underwhelming though... More
