We really enjoyed the morning/ afternoon up there. It is quite a distance from the road BUT well worth it.
The staff are brilliant anf friendly, the zip lining is great in the trees and you do feel yourself get higher. The initial climb up to the zip line platforn is a nice little cardio to get the heart pumping. My mum was terrified doing the first one and that didnt seem to go away as she competed the course. She throughly enjoyed every terrified minute of it though and would love to it again.
I also wanted a walk through the forest as i am interested in the vegetation and medicinal properties of plants. We tried to catch the monkey's but you have to get there eary and we were delayed by over an hr (totally my fault) It was sad to see the little waterfall full of pollution however it's good we are shown the effects of mass production and the impact on the environment. I enjoyed the trip and would go back again to try catch the monkey's. Kato is an excellent guide.

trekking the gray manga-bey has so far been one of the very interesting moments for me, as some one who has grown from here in Uganda and seeing majorly one type of monkey, this particular I had not seen before and finding it was fun.

' A mini adventure' away from Kampala. We took local transport from Kampala to Lugazi town and were greeted by a staff member who had corresponded well with me on the phone previously. Nice touch. We then took boda bodas via sugar cane fields to the camp site which is about 20 minutes away (5,000 UGX for two people). The camp is on the LEFT hand side of the Kampala-Jinga road as you come from Kampala and the forest in on its doorstep. The camp site is well kept, has butterflies around and has hammocks! We stayed in simple rooms in a small block of about 4/5 concrete rooms with a shower (cold water) and toilet. beds had mosquito nets and were clean. I would have suggested (had I been asked for feedback) that the rooms be cleaned more thoroughly - bathroom, floors, walls....more clean.... but we 'made do'. A 2 hour walk in the forest with guide was included in the fee of 60,000 UGX per person (residents rates?). Amazing natural environment with lots to see en route. Monkeys, fungi and vast foliage! Water falls nice but not breathtaking but lets not detract from what a wonderful activity this was. Food that was offered was basic - only one choice but was OK tasting and the breakfast was basic but satisfactory. Prices were fair at 10,000 UGX for the lunch or dinner. Overall, good service, fair accommodation for the cost and beautiful scenery.

Went up to the gate of Mabira forest. We were charged each 55.000 ugx for a 2 hour walk, so we decided to make a u-turn.

What a brilliant day. Travelled with my daughter (who lives in Kampala) and her friend by car, waited at the Simple Supermarket on the left and was then taken down by Boda to the place. It is a long was off the beaten track but great once there, the facilities are limited but OK, Prices are 100,000 for non-residents and 90,000 for non-Ugandan residents and there are soft-drinks as well. A restaurant but no sign of cooking or life there.
The whole zip-wire experience takes about 3 hours and is a lot of fun, the two guys looking after us are competent and very safety conscious. You climb up and zip-wire back down with 6 zip-wires in-between (all of which are gentle slopes but very high up). It was great fun and it felt safe.
The money goes to local families who have to come up with a project that is sustainable i.e. buy some cattle to start a herd so you feel good about paying a bunch of local guys to help the local people.
The river is pretty polluted from the sugar-cane factory up the road and the guys looking after us were quietly very angry about the Indian owner paying cane-cutters 70,000 a month and then tipping sludge into the primary source of the local drinking water. Can't say I blame them (and said that) but kept quiet that my breakfast with my daughter and friend that morning in Kampala had cost more than these guys get paid a month.
Anyway - if you get the chance go; it is great fun, safe and the money goes to some pretty deserving people.

this place is hidden in the middle of the mabira forest but its worth hnting for it because the falls are nice to view and you also take a walk in the forest.

Stayed at Griffin falls camp. Basic accommodation but over priced. 10000 UGX for a basic room. They charge 30000 UGX for a 2 hr forest walk which I should say is a rip off. You see nothing except for fire ants, fungi and a couple of red tailed monkeys. Was really dissapointed when they asked for 10000 UGX just for watching others do the zip lining when they had already charged 30000 for the forest walk. Food was very basic and bland. Breakfast was really overpriced. Beer is cheap, 3500/bottle. They have phone charging points in the rooms but switched off the whole night. Peter the guide was professional, friendly and an experienced guide. If you are here for zip lining, do it in a day, don't pay for the forest walk, it's worthless and return to where you came from the same day.

The staff accommodated us within 24 hours notice, including picking us up from Jinja, a meal, ziplining, and a forest walk. The guides are very safety conscious and friendly. Highly recommend. Cash only.

Griffin Falls is East Africa's only ziplining experience, and it does not disappoint. I've been back twice - once for a day trip in 2014 when it first opened, and again for an overnight camping and ziplining trip for my birthday in 2015. You drive through a tea plantation to get there, eventually entering the rainforest. The zipline takes you through about 6 or 7 trees more than 50 meters up, and it's very professionally done: it was set up by an American Peace Corps volunteer in partnership with experts from South Africa.
It's a great place to camp - while I wouldn't recommend the cabins (they are quite expensive for what turns out to be pretty basic accommodation), it's very scenic. You can see thunderstorms rolling in over the hills and treetops, there's a pavilion to cook at, and you go to sleep listening to the sounds of the forest animals.
And the more income is generated from tourism, the less incentive there is for the government to hand over the rainforest to logging interests.
One point of advice: cell phone reception is pretty bad at the campsite, so make sure you have everything arranged in advance.
Highly recommended!

We stayed at the Griffin Falls camp for 2 nights and spent a day zip-lining as well as visiting Itanda falls and the source of the nile. We booked with Eco Tours, and they were great. Robert picked us up at the airport, and was our guide and driver for the 2 days... he was awesome.
Ziplining was great family fun (kids ages 12 and 15). Gregory the "Sky Commander" was fantastic. Safety conscious and fun.
Staying in the "Eco nests" was an adventure, but memorable and what a way to experience the rain forest. The night time sounds are amazing, and waking up with monkeys in the trees overhead was incredible.
The guys were great at showing us the Mangabe monkeys, and the meals were excellent. The Griffin falls camp is quite a way off the beaten track, but no problem getting there with a guide.
We would definitely recommend this if you are up for adventure :)
