Enjoyed the tour, nice to see there is access to see quite a bit of the locks without a ticket, but also, being able to get access to the tunnel, boat ride, and have a guided tour was worth the price. Tyler was a great tour guide, for being a high school student, he was captivating, informative, and knowledgeable. My husband has difficulty ambulating and was able to tolerate and navigate the tour, despite being a cave that was man made, the ground was level.

The Lockport Cave is an outstanding experience along the Erie Canal. Kyle, our tour guide, did a fantastic job explaining the history of both the Erie Canal Locks and the city of Lockport. If you desire to learn more about the history and how industry flourished in Lockport, this tour is for you. Of course, if you like dark tunnels and boat ride underground - this experience is made for you!
If you do decide to come, read up on their website the dos and don'ts - no flip flops etc.

I would have given this tour 5 stars if I had known a bit more of what to expect. I knew that it was going to be 1 hr and 15 minutes long when I booked online. However, I did not know that half of that time would be spent above ground walking along the canal and learning about the canal system and the previous historical businesses of Lockport. It was really interesting, but if I had known, I would have come prepared with a bottle of water and worn sunscreen because it was a scorcher of a day and my family and I came away with sunburns. Once underground it was, of course, far cooler and exactly what I expected of a "Cave and Underground Boat Ride." Although I'd watched many programs and read many books on the building of the canal, this underground tour really made the task set before these workers and what they accomplished come to life. In less than an hour I realized there was no way I could have done what they did!

This business is temporarily closed. I guess it has been since 6/13/23. I made and paid for a reservation on 6/19/23 for a tour on 6/30/23. I showed up at the reservation time, not knowing that they were temporarily shut-down by the city for electrical hazards. I was not informed either at the time the reservation was made (after the apparent closure) or anytime before my scheduled reservation that their tours were not operating. I called the number on their website but am not able to leave a message for a return call (mailbox full). I have emailed, with no reply. There has been no communication. VERY disappointed.

Our scheduled visit didnt happen. They had to close down because of the incident. They did not contact us nor did they refund our money. They told us repeatedly that we were on a list to be refunded. We have never been refunded and they stopped responding to emails. We have never been able to get a person on the phone either. Last time we attempted was December. Still no response.

My wife and I found this place while taking the fall foliage train ride from Medina. The train went past this place so we looked it up and immediately booked our tour for a few days later. Tickets were inexpensive and 100% worth the money! Our guide, Kyle, engaged the entire group and had fun doing what she was doing while sharing the history of the locks. If you are looking for something to do with the kids or your spouse…. Take the time to do this tour!

Guide talked way too fast and therefore could not understand her. It was like they turned a tape recorder on, and off she went. She did not interact with the group, as she's talking the group isn't up to where she is. She doesn't stop and wait for them to gather around to hear what she's explaining so they miss the information. The tour would have been better with a different guide.
Besides it's not a cave, it's a man made tunnel

So my husband and I rented a narrowboat back in Macedon to cruise the Erie Canal by ourselves for a week. Lockport is the terminus of the westbound route so we docked our boat above Locks 34/35 and took a look around the canal park area…all of this is available for free. Then we decided to get tickets for the Lockport cave and underground boat ride. Turns out the first half hour or so of their tour brings us right back to all the free stuff we just looked at…so I wish they had a cheaper ticket option that was JUST the cave/boat ride because it was a hot day to spend soooo much time in the hot Sun paying to do what we just did for free. The cave itself is intersecting and the short boat ride was neat. I wouldn’t say that it’s a MUST DO attraction…but I am glad we checked it out as I like history and the cave was a cool respite from that hot day.

Visited Canal Discovery Center (highly recommend) and docent suggested we visit the caves. What great fun. It helped that we learned so much at discovery center and this just made it all the better. Our guide started showing us the locks and brief history then we walked down path and saw remnants of the various industries that used the caves to control water that ran turbines that produced goods. We then went into caves and saw first hand how the water flowed. The boat trip was a fun ending. Highly recommend in conjunction with Discovery Center.

Had a wonderful tour today with Kyle- nobody else joined the tour so she tailored the tour to just me. Kyle was knowledgeable and thorough bringing to life the bustling town of Lockport. She could also speak to the area’s development and history setting the cave tour into a larger historical context.
Kat greeted me and oriented me to the tour in a friendly and professional manner. These two ladies really are gems and the tour is remarkable in the ground it covers (at ground level AND below)!

Can I dock a canal boat within walking distance to take your tour?
Written June 18, 2019
We drove so I do not know if docking is available. Best to call the company as they have been in business many years and can advise you.

We went on a cool day and a light jacket was needed inside and out so it's hard to say. It is a cave and it's damp with a bit of dripping water so you might want a light jacket.

How long is the boat ride? Generally, how long do people spend here?
Written July 25, 2018
The ride is fairly short. There's a lot of time spent on the history of the Erie Canal and, once in the cave, the blasting of the cave. Total is about 90 minutes or less.
Written August 9, 2018
I would call before just showing up, they do have many tours a day, but I would definitely call ahead of time to see what the availability is like.

Is this ok for a 7 year old with an arm cast that goes above his elbow? Restrictions: can't get wet, none to very little risk of falling, etc.
Written May 4, 2017
Definitely okay for a 7 year old. As for the cast, we barely got wet.But there is drippings of water from the top of the cave and it is moist inside. So we did get little droppings here and there .
Since this is nothing like The Maid of the Mist or anything like that-just placing a clear plastic bag over his arm and gently taping at the top should be just fine.
No risk of falling there either. The guides are great and make sure every precaution is taken.

How difficult is the walking on the stairs in the tunnel? On a scale of 1-10 (one easy ten very difficult).
Written June 1, 2016
I felt the stairs are okay. If there is moisture they could be a tad slippery, but no problem. I have difficulty with a bad knee and I was able to negotiate with no trouble. I just took my time.
Written June 2, 2016
Yes there is a fee, as stated by others. But don't go just for the "ride". The ride is a fairly small part of the overall tour. Go because you want to learn something amazing about our history. It is a very great tour and experience but if you are merely looking for entertainment you might be disappointed.
