Had a great time taking our first lesson shooting sporting clays! Paula is a great and dedicated instructor and made sure we had a blast! The grounds are beautiful too. Would highly recommend!

Great facility , my opinion well maintained. I didn't want to express my opinion, but I have to tell something, last weekend I was myself shooting clays. I must to take 2 rounds , fine , fun for me , I have to give gratitude for trapper , fine, but when lady on front desk asked me to double tips because I've shoot 2 round I really pissed off. I've paid , but I will never going to visit them again even I've made mistake to get membership there. It's not about a money , everything about relationship.

Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your unfavorable experience at Orvis Sandanona. Your experience should always be fun and relaxing, and we most certainly did not meet those expectations on your visit. I would welcome the chance to make it right and to have the chance to speak with you. My email is longp@orvis.com if you would be willing to email me your contact information - I will reach out. I apologize for our service and hope we have the opportunity to regain your trust in us.

Did the one day Orvis shooting school at Sandanona and had an outstanding experience. The instructor Andy was excellent - knowledgeable, engaging, attentive and so helpful. I went from novice to actually knowing what I was doing and consistently hitting the sporting clays thanks to Andy’s expert guidance. I highly recommend Orvis Sandanona and Andy for anyone wanting to try or get better at clay shooting in a scenic and relaxed setting.

My girlfriend & I visited Sandanona on a rainy Saturday in August 2018.

Despite (or perhaps, because of) the rain (which made the day feel quite English!), we had a wonderful time going around the course.

Neither of us had done sporting clays shooting before, though we had both done some skeet shooting in the past. Our lack of experience wasn't an obstacle - our trapper gave us excellent guidance & made everything seamless.

I highly recommend the Sandanona sporting clays experience for everybody. While it is a bit pricey, I don't think it is unreasonable given the quality of the site, service, and equipment.

I very recently attended the Orvis 1 day Wingshooting school in Manchester, VT with my husband and another couple. The other woman and I in our party were total shotgun newbies and it was our first experience with this sport.

I decided to visit Orvis - Sandanona and registered for a 1 day wingshooting class because I had come up with a list of questions since my last class. Also, it was a good way for a single (one person) to go clay shooting and my husband was away on his own weekend adventure elsewhere.

Our class was small and taught by Joe Wassi. I learned A LOT that day. I felt that we covered more information than my Manchester, VT class. The other person in my group was a total novice and Joe was VERY patient with both of us. We had a hearty and delicious lunch at the main lodge (included with the class). After we were mentally and physically worn out in the afternoon, Joe drove us around the clay shooting course so we could get a sense of what it was like. The shooting grounds are one of the things what differentiate this Orvis class location from the Manchester, VT experience. Sandanona is a shooting DESTINATION. I plan to return with family and friends.

Just a side note: I was a female novice traveling solo to this class. I felt very comfortable there and never felt awkward, even though shooting is a male dominated sport. Good teaching and good technique are the keys to success and Orvis is an excellent place to learn.

My first and only experience with Orvis Sandanona was absolutely awesome. I booked myself a solo lesson this morning and was able to get a spot on the same day, wanting to learn to shoot sporting clays. My visit took place on July 8, 2018. The appointment was made over the phone, and I was helped by a very professional Shannon and then again by Wendy.
Drove the hour from my house to the grounds and was introduced to my instructor, Jonathan. Jonathan took into account that I had never shot clays before, and went thru the basics with extreme thoroughness and answered my questions in a language that was easy to understand.
I will most definitely be going back to Sandanona, maybe even next weekend. A gem of a facility with some really top notch people. Take the opportunity to check this place out if you can...it is a little pricey, but so worth it when you consider what you are getting for your money.
Awesome place with some truly great people. If you need instruction, I couldn't reccommend Jonathan more highly. Definitely check it out.

My husband and I visited Orvis for a two day fly fishing class. Having never fly fished before, we were excited, but anxious that two days would have been to long for an experience we were not sure we would enjoy. We had a blast! The student/teacher ratio was perfect. It was almost like private instruction with just enough alone time to take in the surroundings. The instructors, Marc, Bob,and Rich were completely competent and knowledgeable. They were able to impart loads of information without leaving us overwhelmed. I was so impressed with their understanding and appreciation of nature and the generous way they taught us. We learned soooo much about fly fishing. Who knew there was so much to learn? We just scratched the surface, but we left with not only a good understanding of the basics, but a need to learn more. The nature was pristine and downright romantic! Yes, not a typing error, it was a romantic fishing trip. The river was so beautiful, it was almost overwhelming!

I remember shooting SC here years ago, when it was one of the premium outlets for this sport, comparable to such high end venues as Pintail Point down in MD and Addieville RI. So, I got excited when a friend from CT called to invite me to a shoot there and did not think anything of the two hours drive from the City to reach Sandanona. The two hours drive back looked like four, given the disappointing visit and shoot. They had some kind of event, so only few of the stations were open. But that was not the main problem. The place looks falling apart: the only “hip” area is the shop where they peddle modern Orvis clothing. But that's not why you go to a Sporting Clay outfit. Some of the stations looked so antique, I was afraid they'd fall down while we are climbing them. The traps are still not automated! Thus, they assure employment for an army of trappers which makes them the most expensive SC venue I have visited, and I've shot in every state of the nation. Everything is extra, even if you are member. Huge gratuity is expected on top of high rates. I know they also offer hunting but have no opinion on how good that is, I only found out that the area they hunt on is not that big and prices are very high. For my money, I'd rather go to Mid Hudson SC in New Paltz. Oh, and did I tell you about the bugs? An Army of bugs, no less.

Thank you for your recent review of Orvis Sandanona. I am disappointed that you did not find our facility up to your standards and I am grateful to be able to address some of your concerns. We consciously decided not to automate our traps given the amount of novice shooters we entertain and also a great majority of our clientele like having the trappers who can give them a much more diversified shooting experience than if the traps were automated. We try to keep our stations as natural as possible so they are not painted or stained for that purpose but I can assure you that they are indeed safe. We are pleased to be able to employ many local folks here at Orvis Sandanona - many of our employees have been here for over 20 years and have become part of our fabric. And yes spring brings the gnats and bugs but they do not last long into the season thankfully. Please feel free to give me a call at anytime as I would love to hear more about your trip and learn how we can improve our Clays venue. I look forward to hearing from you.
