The "Walking Dunes" are amazing

The Walking Dunes trail is through a unique natural phenomenon. You get to walk on top of a forest and get amazing vistas. All the other trails in Hither Hills are great too.

I love that you can walk on these dunes and watch them cascade into the forest. This is a short but beautiful hike. There is a cranberry bog and wonderful water views. The trails are marked well also.

I have been encouraged to give hither hills a try for many years. This year I booked a site and before I knew it a few more friends also made plans to come. Score! My buddy and I spent the first few days striped bass fishing with no success. My wife came a few days later and while we still... More

They just build a new bathroom near G ring. It is very clean and updated. Of course, the beach is second to none. Sites is pretty spacious for two tents and a screen house, and you still have more space. You can bring bikes. Since there is no fire ring, you have to bring your own (must be 6 inches... More

Sleep with an ocean view in Montauk for $35 a night - can't beat that. Clean bathrooms/showers and a store for coffee and egg sandwiches in the morning. This must be the best bargain in eastern Long Island.

If you've never camped on the beach, Hither Hills is the perfect destination. The sound of surf and fresh air, your car and BBQ grill conveniently close, and hot showers in your semi private bathroom facility within easy walking distance from your tent, make for a comfortable, fun camping trip on the dunes! Gorgeous! Perfect location for your Boy Scout... More

Driving to Montauk, we stopped at the Hither Hills West Overlook for beautiful views of Long Island, facing back west. It was a beautiful sunny day and you could see miles in all directions. There were many trails leading off the overlook parking lots and quite a few cars were parked in the area. Gorgeous views - well worth the... More

We mountain biked for 3 days in this park and in Hither Woods Preserve. At two of the trailheads there were large displays showing all of the trails. Unfortunately once you biked into the woods there was very little markings. I had a small yellow map from the map box and it was ok. Basically had to go by your... More

We make this place a "must visit" every summer. The beaches here are long with plenty of space to spread out. The $10 entry fee is very reasonable. There is a snack bar, bathrooms with showers and a changing area. There is a reserved campsite here so many people come from their campers and relax in the sun. The parking... More
