Encompassing more than 600 acres, the Genesee Country Village & Museum is the largest living history museum in New York state. Located in small hamlet of Mumford, New York, about 20 miles (32 km) from Rochester, New York, USA. First opened to the public in 1976, the authentic 19th-century Historic Village features costumed historians breathing life into many of the 68 relocated and restored historic homes, farms, shops and other public buildings. When you visit during the regular season you will find various historic trades and craftspeople as well as historic cooking and agricultural demonstrations. GCV&M is also home to the John L. Wehle Art Gallery, the Genesee Country Nature Center, Silver Baseball Park, a pioneer farm, and several Heirloom Gardens. Numerous special events and classes are also offered throughout the year. Our regular open season runs from Mother's Day weekend through Columbus Day, with special programs in November, December and March.

So many facets of American living history told by buildings, artifacts, and real people well versed in our history. I am a historian, and tour guide at an air museum in Geneseo, and brought many ideas from this place to develop for our place. I...More

We enjoyed our quiet day long walk around Genesee Village. All off the volunteers as well as the paid staff were knowledgeable, helpful and inviting. Having been to Williamsburg, we expected that type of quality but the two experiences are distinctly different but equally enjoyable.

Wonderful afternoon attraction. Fun for all ages. Better then we expected. With almost 70 buildings to view. Staff were engaging and knew what they were talking about. Grounds were well kept. Prices were very fair for food and drinks. Well done!!

This is definitely a biased review ... I loved wandering around this unique historic village as a kid, and continue to love as an adult. What can I say, it's pure joy to lose yourself as you walk through the tidy gravel streets and peek...More

The staff who greats in the amazing buildings know a lot about their home/business. You can ask them any questions and you'll get an answer. And they are very friendly to boot! Plan at least half a day here. There is a lot of walking,...More

The Genesee Country Village has one of the best collections of art, costume, decorative arts and historic architecture in New York State and deserves to be much better known and visited than it is. The problem is that the staff basically gears everything towards fourth...More

A great representation of life in early New York state. Very well run with many demonstrations, etc. The layout is well planned and organized. Everyone associated with the village was friendly and personable. Well worth the price of admission.

Took the grandchildren (12,13,15) expecting them to be totally bored. I was pleasantly surprised! The volunteer characters in period costume were extremely knowledgeable in their fields. Black-smith, Cooper, Tin-Maker, Farmer, Weaver, Brewer, Printer, etc. Knew their stuff and kept the grandchildren interested. I learned quit...More

We started by walking through the Historic Village. We visited many different places including, schoolhouses, homes, taverns, farms, potteries, and tinsmiths. There was a helpful map to guide us; if we didn't have it, we'd have no idea what was what. We played some fun...More

I am not sure what link you mean, but if you need a lift while visiting GCV&M and the trolley is not running, you need only ask a staff person and they will call someone to assist you.

The roadways are gravel. There are a couple sections with a brick walk and a plank walkway section, but for the most part you would travel on the gravel roadways. About 20% of the buildings in the historic village are... More
