Disappointing experience

Unfortunately, the entire park was under construction when we visited. Tours were entirely booked for a Saturday visit. No one was on the grounds while we were there. Still able to walk around and take pics on grounds. If you’re looking to visit soon, prepare for limited access due to construction. Plan ahead and call to reserve a tour.

Outstanding historic site with a great group of exhibits. The views were outstanding and grounds were so well kept. It’s a fantastic place to see.

Expected More - Should Be A National Park!

We stopped in to see Washington’s HQ’s on a day trip to the Catskills, only to find that reservations and a tour was required to see the HQ’s. It is a very, very slow time due to Covid and the late season, but they could not accommodate us without waiting 45 minutes for the next tour. We decided to go through the museum and were disappointed to see that all the artifacts on the 2nd floor were marked with simple numbers that then required you to go to one of only 2 or 3 iPad-type devices to look up each item individually. In a time of Covid, touching this screen was not optimal and it certainly wasn’t convenient to have to walk across the room every time you wanted to read about an object. Making it available on an app would have solved the issue OR they could have simply provided short descriptions of each items on the wall or the shelf near the item. If this was turned over to the National Park Service, I believe they could make it a museum worthy of all American’s time and effort to see it, but currently I would say it’s not worth the time and money that we spent.

Must Visit
Nov. 2019
You have to be delighted that this staff does all of the hard work it does to create an excellent tour in this wonderful museum and headquarters building,

It is truly authentic and what is even more amazing is everything that we know about it from all of the letters that Washington wrote and all of the artifacts on display.

This is a great piece of American history.

Worth the Visit.

We live in the West but every time we travel to the east coast and visit a Revolutionary War site I am more impressed with with what the citizens and warriors (mainly malitias) went through to win independence from England. This is not large and you can do it in about 2 hours. You should do the tour where they take you to the house that they ( Gen. Washington and staff) stayed in and described how they functioned there, as far as war strategies eating and sleeping. After that they take you to the tower which has a fantastic view. Then go back to the first and second floor of the museum. I have seen so many paintings of George Washington over the years one of the most impressive things was the life mask of Gen. Washington. This was taken while he was alive and shows what his face looked like when he was alive, it is somewhat different from the paintings I have seen for most of my life and looks much better than the paintings. Overall it was worth the trip.

Excellent Tour

My wife and I visited the Washington's Headquarters in Newburgh. We enjoyed the tour through the house and our tour guide was excellent. He new the history and was able to answer a number of questions from others on the tour. My only complaint is the rest rooms in the reception building are in the basement and no provision for handicaps to get there except walking dow and up a flight of stairs.

Amazing bit of history! The first publicly owned historic site in the United States.

In this house, on this land George Washington rejected the idea of an American monarchy. Ended the Newburgh Conspiracy. And created the Badge of Military Merit, (now called the Purple Heart).

Nice tours, lots to see. And a fabulous lawn with an amazing view Bring a picnic lunch and enjoy!

It was more interesting than I thought it would be. It's cool to walk in the place that Washington walked and the events that happened here were unique- I hadn't known about them before. Upstate New York has a lot of Revolutionary history credentials. The guide was really good. The trip up to the top of the tower was mildly interesting. The views are unparalleled. It was not the most exciting part of my visit upstate but it kept my interest.

Amazing!

We had to stop by this little gem before leaving Newburgh. It is a $4 tour of the house and tower. There is also a great little museum with artifacts. It only takes about an hour to hour an half total. Our house guide, Micheal and tower guide (sorry that I can't remember your name) were knowledgeable and passionate about the subject material. I personally think it is a must see if you are in the area and a lover of american history.
