We visited this place during a week of hiking. The contrast when compared to the desert-like on the other side of the island is immense: this valley is green with sugar cane and coffee plantations. Also has wonderful old Trapiche where you can see the...More

Of the more accessible places of Santo Antão the three most worthwhile places to visit are the coastal area near the village of Fontainhas (reachable from Ponta do Sol), the Cova de Paul crater with the nearby Pico da Cruz and the valley of Paúl...More

The trek isn't difficult if you start from the top, but your legs will feel it the day after, depending on how fit you are. The views are amazing and you go through several villages which have several plantations, both at the top in the...More

I came here briefly as part of a round-the-island day trip and wished I could have stayed longer to wander and take proper photos. What a gorgeous valley. Ramblers were walking at their leisure through the tiny little villages. One of the sights I liked...More

We walked down the valley from the Cova crater over a high ridge. The descent is over a paved path which is meandering downhill. Depending on how many clouds or fog are obstructing the view, you are getting a magnificent impression of this beautiful valley....More
