My husband and I made the trek up here twice during our honeymoon and each time was worth it! We went once at night to see Oia lit up and once early in the morning, which was breathtaking. Day or night, a must see view!

The view from the ruins is delightful but the castle itself is nothing, just a few rocks where it used to be.

Nothing grand to look at besides some remaining ruins of a 15th century castle on the cliff of Oia. Because of the shortage of time and the overflowing of tourists, I decided to take a look only in a distance without going in. Probably it...More

The position on the cliffs of Oia with the backdrop of the town and the Caldera is what you go here for. The ruin itself is basically a couple of walls. Well worth a visit for the photos you can take.

The view really is outstanding, and the (unreconstructed) Byzantine castle seems to flow down the cliffs level by level like a cascading water fall. Great for photos. The only caveat is that the staircase up/down to the viewing area is protected only by a wire...More

Fight the crowds and make sure you visit the castle ruins if for no other reason than to get some great photos. You won't regret it!!!

This is a must see if you're in Oia. It only takes 10 minutes to walk from most parking areas and it is less than 2 minutes from the main strip Oia. We went around 9 in the morning after breakfast and there were only...More

We nearly missed the place as the ruins are completely surrounded with houses. It wasn't what I expected, only a few walls and it's teeming with tourists even in the middle of a really hot day. I'd hate to think all these people would actually...More

From Oia(where rthe castle ruins) are , we can reach Perissa though bus and it is very easy. Just get to the know timings of the bus and they plan. There are toilets only in the shops or restaurants around. Hence you can... More

Oia is northwest of the Island where the Byzantine Castle Ruins are, and Akrotiri is in the southeast and you need to drive to get there. Enjoy your trip!
