Underwhelmed
Sep. 2020
Garnet Hill Lodge is a grand old place. But the rooms need updated a tad bit. I was lead to believe there was a restaurant and bar on the property, but it was just an outpost with a tent in the parking lot.
I understand with COVID the precautions needed to be taken, but if you're going to have little service, then the price should reflect it.
We were expecting a relaxing couple of days in the mountains, but we got ice cold showers, had dinner in a cold and drafty tent in a gravel parking lot, and had to move rooms because someone was playing loud music all day in the room next door.
The bright spot was Jessica who checked us in and served our breakfast the two mornings we were there, and the cook were absolutely fabulous, hence the two rating.

Beautiful skiing, well-groomed trails!
Feb. 2019 • Friends
Had a great day xc skiing on Friday. Good temps, little wind and blue sky. Never ran out of new trails to explore. Trails were groomed perfectly for classic or skate. We didn’t stay at the lodge, so I can’t comment on the accommodations or food, but the skiing was lovely.

Beautiful Location and great food
Jul. 2018 • Family
Garnet Hill is found among the mountains of the Adirondacks. The location of the lodge is amazing and the food in the restaurant is excellent. We were there for four days in July and truly enjoyed our stay. There is an exceptional mountain lake down the hill from the lodge (Thirteenth Lake) and kayaks and canoes are available to guests for free use. The staff were all very kind and work at a pleasantly slow pace. It is a facility meant to be enjoyed leisurely and that is exactly the vibe given off. The room we stayed in was spacious but please don't expect plush carpet or expensive artwork...it's a lodge with paneling and green carpet. If you are looking to relax, enjoy hiking, swimming, kayaking and a calm pace, this is the place to go. I would definitely go back.

Wonderful Getaway
May 2018 • Couples
We eat at Garnet Hill often and the food has been wonderful. The wait staff is friendly and the Lodge is beautiful. The Lodge has gone through many upgrades in the last year and the improvements show. There is a lot of love put into that beautiful place. We live locally so we have not stayed there but I have heard from many that the experience is very relaxing and enjoyable.

Garnet Hill is a delightful place to spend a day or several at the lodge. The trails are groomed the staff is friendly and the food is delicious. Recenetly skied to the Sugar Hut and had great pastries and tea before a ski down to Rogers Road for the lift back up to the ski center. If you like the Adirondacks you will love this place

Best XC skiing in the Adirondacks
Feb. 2018 • Family
If you are looking for miles and miles of groomed cross country skiing on a variety of terrain through beautiful woods, make Garnet Hill your first stop. Pick up your trail pass and map (and ski rentals, if you need) at the ski shop and then head out. Be sure to plan your route using both the trail ratings and topo map contours. Most trails are groomed regularly, so they are good for both classical and skating skiing. And if you are skating (or even classical), you can catch a van back to the ski shop from Roger's Road and Schoolhouse Road, so you can explore more and not feel like you have to turn around. Be sure to ski down to Thirteenth Lake and ski the shoreline. It is spectacular.
Don't know how to ski or want to get better or learn how to skate ski? Sign up for a lesson from one of their talented instructors.
Have lunch at the ski shop and stay for dinner at the Log House restaurant. But plan to spend the day, as you will need it, to explore as many trails as you can. But know you won't get to all of the trails in one day! It's too big! Have fun!!!

Great Skiing Experience - Friendly Staff
Jan. 2018 • Couples
My family and I used to go here when I was young and I have very fond memories. I just returned for the first time in at least 15 years and it is just as great as I remember. Though it is cross country skiing, the difficulty of the trails varies greatly, and the advanced trails feel very much like downhill for a fraction of the price (which is excellent for seasoned skiers). They offer bus rides so that you can take a mostly downhill run and then get picked up at the bottom of the hill and brought back up to the lodge. These runs take between 40-60 minutes. It also has very gentle trails which are good for beginners and children. I would highly recommend a visit for a couples getaway or for family fun. You can also snow shoe on the trails (which we did as well) if some in your group would prefer that to skiing.

The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. When we went, there was freezing rain one night and the driveway of the house that we rented was impossible to traverse the next morning (it was 150 yards long, steep, and winding). When we foolishly attempted to drive down it, we got stuck in a snow bank. The staff at the ski lodge offered to come get us unstuck and even sand down the driveway so we had no more problems going up and down it. They were lovely and did a great job pulling us out with a winch. Shout out to Adam in the ski lodge for offering help and setting us up with the maintenance folks.

Classic Adirondacks
Jan. 2018 • Couples
This lodge captures the backwoods spirit of the Adirondacks. If you're looking for solitude--and a home-cooked breakfast--then look no further. We visited for the better part of a week in January in order to pack in some cross-country skiing. I'm basically a beginner so I took lessons. The staff was knowledgable and supportive and the trails are immaculately maintained. From our balcony room we had a picture-postcard view of lawn, lake, mountains. We will be back!

Dinner
Nov. 2017 • Family
Dinner tonight was seriously disappointing. Everything was super salty, chef forgot to include things in the “signature salads”.
Instead of a nice family dinner everybody was complaining.

Maybe the chef had the day off?
