I always visit the Memorial Art Gallery when I'm in Rochester. When I'm free on a Thursday night I'll grab a glass of wine and a bite to eat. It's always a fun evening. The quality of the collections, though not grand, his high, and the special exhibitions on view are wonderful and always beautifully installed and sensitively treated. If... More

Rochester was once very, very rich, which means that over the years, this museum accumulated quite a nice collection. I was surprised by an exhibit of Keith Haring (not very well presented, it has to be said: it's certain some of the text by William S Burroughs didn't match the specific panels it was attached to). And some other good... More

I visited here one Thursday evening, planning to just spend my time admiring art, but was so pleasantly suprised when I started hearing organ music wafting downstairs. I quickly proceeded upstairs where there was a large auditorium filled with people listening to two different musicians, one of them was from Germany. It made everything almost magical, and I loved it.

I'm far from an art expert but I enjoyed the collection at this museum. The museum has an interesting exhibit right now in which it compares different portrait styles. The museum also has a mummy right now which could be fun for the kids to see.

Great museum - especially for this size community. Always wish I have more time to take in the art in a nice setting. They have excellent programs for all ages as well.

My husband and I visit here often. We love both their varied permanent collections and the interesting traveling exhibits. Each Sunday afternoon, an organ student from the nearby Eastman School of Music presents a short lecture-recital on their charming Broque organ. This is definitely one of Rochester's gems. We always bring our out-of-town guests here, and they love it.

My wife and I have visited many art museums in the US and Europe. The Memorial Art Gallery is one of the best small/medium size museums that we have visited. The collection includes many fine American and European paintings. There is also an area devoted to Asian art. The galleries are spacious and the works are well lighted. The building... More

Love visiting this museum and its permanent collection. But the new Robert Polidori photography show is a special bonus. Polidori shows interior spaces that have been ravaged by man and/or nature. Almost every image shows a doorway or window into another space. It's a super interesting exhibition and worth a visit.

This is a lovely gem in Rochester. We attended an event for students here. The docent was incredibly knowledgable and friendly and was excellent with teenage kids. The museum has plenty of different styles of artwork, so there is something for everyone. The students paid $4 each, so in this regard, it was very affordable. I'm not sure what the... More
