Great Old Church in Beautiful Sag Harbor

Just got to visit this beautiful church on a trip to the Hamptons and Sag Harbor. It's an Egyptian revival style wooden building built in 1844. Its worth a visit.

The Whaler's Church is a community fixture from the point of view of it's architecture and of the programs it features. It supports local performers and holiday performances as well as a lovely service.

This is a very cool old church that is now shared between a Christian denomination and a Jewish congregation. How cool is that? Everybody saves on the heating bill. It's right in the heart of Sag Harbor. Put it on your walking tour.

You really get a sense of what it felt like in Whaling days in Sag Harbor when you walk into this church with it's great pipe organ. We took a tour with our book club when reading Moby Dick, it really resonates a 19th c sensibility.

I arrived at The Old Whalers’ Church around 1:00pm on a Sunday. The doors were locked and I couldn’t go inside. I should have checked the church’s website for opening hours and special events. Disappointed that I didn’t see the interior of this unique Presbyterian Church. The Egyptian Revival style exterior is strikingly beautiful. Without a steeple (it was destroyed... More

A great place to visit not only on Sunday!! During the year the church holds different concerts which are not necessarily religious based. As soon as you walk thru the buildings' doors you get a great sense of the history of whaling times.....with photos to show how it once was! Don't miss it when you are visiting in the Village... It's not the oldest Presbyterian Church in the US (that's in Southampton), but it has to be "the coolest" and among the most interesting architecturally. Dubbed to have the best Egyptian revival styled facade of any church in the United States, this beautiful 1844 church had a 185-foot tall spire that was blown off in the famous hurricane that devistated...
