Spent a weekend at a relative's upper Saranac Lake. The sunny weather was beautiful with highs in the 70s and lows in the 40s during the last week in August. If you have a boat, there is plenty of room for skiing or tubing and lots of nooks and crannies to explore along the coast line. There is even a... More

Saranac Lake is a cool little town and lake in the Adirondacks that is just the most beautiful place to hike, swim, boat and camp. Very friendly people and world class scenery.

I highly recommend Saranac Lake as a family friendly travel destination! There are many things to do, great places to lodge and eat, and the mountain and lake views are breath taking! Our family fun day started with a walk through downtown, followed by a fabulous lunch at the Downhill Cafe, then a ride on the historical carousel, a scenic... More

Looks like a greeting card it's so perfect. We kayaked the lake and I guess boats were restricted on our area so it was very nice not worrying about boat traffic. Quiet and relaxing. Stop on the islands for a nice walk or lunch. Very clean. Water temperature was perfect

We spent 3 days with a family member who lives in Saranac Lake and loved it. Many things to do and close to Lake Placid,

I have been coming up to the Adrondacks for 50 years and I love boating on this lake! Sandy beach, jumping Tommy Rock, Chapel Island to name a few of the places to check out and the views are breathtaking f some of the high peaks. We have seen eagles and loons there every time we go.

Please ignore the rude comment calling this a "has been" town. This is a community of down to earth folks with the best kept restaurants with no wait time during the height of the tourist season. And free access to the lakes to boat and their are 6 ADK peaks surrounding the town as well. Go there and enjoy a... More

We came here for the rail bikes, and arrived a couple hours ahead of our scheduled time. There are a lot of closed stores and not much to do. This town has definitely peaked many, many years ago. Very sad.

Don't miss the Community Store, stopping by the Library to see an amazing collection of stuffed animals of the Adirondacks (yes, this sounds odd but should not be missed). This is a very walkable town with many quality art galleries, craft shops, and unique shopping experiences (eco fibers as an example). Clean, colorful and welcoming town for all. Great exploring without... More
