People, do not be fooled by the name of Woodstock as the venue for the original concert, because it's not. The concert was supposed to be held i Woodstock, but the people of Woodstock, backed out of the deal and the concert promoters had to scramble to find a new location. Bethel,NY was selected as the place for the concert... More

Woodstock is where the famous 1969 festival was conceived. It is the the home of America's oldest surviving Colony of the Arts founded in 1902. In the early 1960s, folk musicians including Bob Dylan from Greenwich Village moved to Woodstock followed by John Baez, Peter, Paul & Mary, The Band, Van Morrison, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix and many many other... When we searched for the Woodstock museum we weren't sure if this was the one people told us about (we were aware that there is one in Bethel, NY) but it looked interesting. We called and spoke to Nathan and knew this would be a trip worth taking. We came of age in the 60s so Woodstock is near and... More

On the spur of the moment we contacted Nathan, the curator of the Woodstock Museum, and he was more accommodating than we could have ever hoped. Located off a gravel road, this tiny treasure holds some of the most poignant memories of the events leading up to and following the famous concert. Carrying on the truest spirit of the hippie... We were actually trying to find the mueseum in Bethel Green but are so happy that we came across this mueseum. Our tour guide - White Buffalo - was the actual owner of the property and was very passionate about what he was talking about. There were only 4 of us on the tour which was an intriguing, informative, 1... More

The Woodstock Museum in Saugerties New York is very interesting and an exceptional experience IF IF IF (and this is important) you are really and truly and deeply interested in the Woodstock Festival. The Woodstock Festival took place from August 15 to 18, 1969 in Bethel NY some 50 or so miles from Woodstock New York on a 600-acre dairy... More

If you love the history of the 60's, you will love this museum. If you are coming to see the grounds, make sure there isn't a concert on the day you come. They do not let you walk around. The museum is worth the visit, as we found out. It is nice that they preserved the site where the Woodstock... More

Just to reiterate...although this museum is listed as a top 10 thing to do in Saugeties and/or Woodstock...it's NOT the one you think it is! The museum just out of Saugeties is tiny and often closed. The one in Bethel that is referred to in other reviews is 50 miles away!

The Woodstock museum is actually located in Bethel Woods, NY not in Woodstock, NY. This is a beautiful property where they have concerts all summer long with a wide variety of different musical performances ranging from Tony Bennett to Taylor Swift in their amphitheatre. I was on a weekend road trip with my sister and brother-in-law and we decided to... More

Before you go, make sure a music festival has not closed the museum. It's not common but happened to us a year ago. Made the trek this weekend a year later. We were fortunate to have a free tour by a volunteer who was at Woodstock, he was wonderful, engaging, and friendly. After the tour we went back and watched/listened... More

For years I have been thinking about taking a day trip here and at last I did. easy to get to and lots of free parking. A small museum that alone is worth the trip with lots of items from the festival itself and the 60s in general. Besides the basic exhibit you see a film about the event and... More
