We have done three trips this year and twice this past week. This is a must do when you come to shelter island.

This was a fantastic experience. Two hours of enjoyable paddling around the water listening to a very knowledgable, relaxed guide show you some fascinating things. The pace was pleasant and allowed for first-timers and even young children to paddle along and not feel left behind. It is, in no way, an exercised workout and shouldn't be! Listening to Jay and... Neither my wife nor I have gone kayaking very much, so when I talked her into a guided tour with Jay at Shelter Island Kayaks, she was a little apprehensive. But Jay was friendly, helpful, accommodating, and allowed us to glide along at a gentle pace. We saw osprey catching fish, terns catching fish, fiddler crabs on the shore, mussels... More

Jay the Kayak guy is a very personable fellow. His assistant Tom is also very likeable. Give this place a try. They give wonderful kayak tours or you can go out on your own with one their kayaks.

This kayaking trip provides a lot of fun and relaxation. The company offers kayak rentals, friendly instructions and advises. The trip allows to explore wildlife at adjacent Mashomack preserve as well as the historic cabin at small Taylor's Island. This adventure is highly recommended for young children because it takes place in a quiet shallow bay without streams (an adult... More

Outstanding experience. It was a very easy rental process. We made reservations to make sure that kayaks were available! We went out as a group and had a wonderful time.

Shelter island Kayak provides the unic chance to share that with your family and friends organizing and launching your kayaks in selected places. They are extremely professional and friendly... Despite the weather being cloudy and windy I went with my 12 year old son for a Sunday morning paddle with Jay the owner. We went into some small creeks and lovely peaceful bays and saw some to the marine and wildlife Shelter Island has hidden behind it's manicured lawns. Think Ospreys circling overhead, a turtle popping up, clams beneath... More

This is the only game in town. We rented a double kayak and covered a lot of ground in two hours. We parked at the launch site for free and the harbor and Taylor island are perfect for paddling. I would definitely rate five stars if the kayaks were better. We would have had a better time if there was... More
