The museum was difficult to find and the roads the gps told us to go led to dead ends. Construction was blocking the view of the museum grounds. But this is a must see museum! My boyfriend loves lighthouses and throughly enjoy the visit. I...More

This is an interesting small museum about national & international lighthouses, located next to Staten Island Ferry terminal building. It covers mostly the history of how the lighthouse service evolved in the US, and how the technology of lighthouses has improved. Note ongoing commercial construction...More

There is so much history and many little gems on Staten Island, but not enough dollars to support everything. Let's hope the City, State, and Federal government start giving some dollars. Only wish the ugly Dept of Sanitation building was not in the way and...More

Yes, the evening tour is a popular favorite! That tour also runs twice on weekends, during the day. We also have our Circumnavigation of Staten Island tour, where you can see the "back side" of Staten Island, seeing many things that are not visible from...More

Took the Staten Island ferry over and it's a short walk with signs that guide you to the museum. We'll worth the entrance fee. Though it's small, it's packed with info. Don't skip the briefing when you enter, it's interesting. Personnel eager to answer your...More

Previous reviews summed up the Lighthouse Museum really well. I'd add only (1) The docent, Jim, was just great in sharing his knowledge and enthusiasm (2) Don't drive, take the ferry and make it part of the experience. Follow directions from the terminal on the...More

This site was the depot for all lighthouse supplies to the US. Very interesting history. Renovations of the surrounding depot buildings in progress. Iā€™m glad we got there when it was still an intimate experience with personal guided tours. The area around gave great photo...More

Love lighthouses? Intrigued by lighthouse? Need to kill 30-40 minutes between ferry rides? As a relatively new museum they are off to a nice start. A perfect location, if you ignore all the construction. It is quite small, plan on 30-40 minutes. They are planning...More

Thanks for your compliments. We are glad you enjoyed your visit. If you only saw placards, it seems you did not avail of our guided introduction, offered to every visitor by our very-knowledgeable docents. As far as interactive displays, and video and sound, those are...More

The Lighthouse Museum is small and focused but we liked it. We actually learned a couple of interesting facts! The volunteer was very smart in that he asked us if we wanted a tour or if we'd prefer to look on our own. We like...More
