Stunning example of art deco architecture. While I was only a sidewalk tourist - the views from the street were nonetheless fabulous. Well maintained facade which made me happy that the owners take pride in their landmark.

We were in Syracuse on Saturday in late August to take in several sights. I had seen pictures of the building when I was planning our trip, and I was so struck by it that I put it on our must-see list. Though you cannot go inside, the true magic of the place is experienced on the outside, where you can see a dazzling array of sculptured aluminum, steel, glass, and stonework. It is nothing short of stunning, and on a sunny day to see it glistening in the sunlight is a marvel to behold. It is a magical blend of right angles, curves, colors, and various geometric designs.

The building, which was completed in 1932, was put on the National Register of Historic Places in June 2010. It is located one block west of Clinton Square. The central figure on the building, located above the main entrance, is a winged figure known as the Spirit of Energy that personifies electric lighting. The building is fitted with plenty of lights so that even at night it draws the eye. It did not see it in the evening, and while I’m sure it’s quite attractive when it’s all lit up, I found it extremely satisfying to see in the daylight, and I feel that is the better time to appreciate its beauty and form, particularly with a deep blue sky in the background.

If you are in Syracuse, there are plenty of attractions within walking distance of this building, so it would be well worth your time to plan an afternoon there and take in multiple sights. Be sure not to miss this one!

One of the joys of smaller cities is accessibility. On our way to dinner, we discovered the Niagra Mohawk Building. A true treasure of Art Deco architecture. The detailing is some of the best you will see. Although there are many older examples of upstate New York stonework to see on buildings throughout downtown, this is an outstanding gem of an architectural style that is under appreciated in America.

Niagara Mohawk Building is a gleaming Art Deco masterpiece. Built in the early 1930’s, it is a must see.

While you cannot go inside and gawk, if you want to linger a bit longer, grab a beer across the street at Talking Cursive Brewery.

I retired a few years ago after working 40 years in this building complex, and for part of that time I had an office in the main art deco building. As a visitor all you'll see is the front of the building and possibly the lobby, and if you like architecture and are in the area, they are worth seeing. (There are other interesting features inside the building but you won't see them unless you have business there.)

Of note is the Spirit of Light stainless steel sculpture over the front door. You may also want to see the building at night, as it has exterior lighting that changes color scheme from day to day to reflect local events, holidays, etc.

If you don't find architecture interesting, you might choose to pass on this. Similarly, most kids wouldn't care about seeing this building. But if you do like architecture, this is a classic gem of the art deco style.

This is a magnificent building that can only be viewed from the outside. It is a shame that no one involved in Syracuse Tourism has not organised a limited tour agreement with the current long term owners. This would be a wonderful tourist attraction and would only add to Syracuse as a destination.
You can view it at night with special lights or during the day. You really need to park your vehicle and walk nearby to get the best photograph.

A highlight of the Syracuse skyline. I am not sure what goes on the building....(is it still just an office building?) but it is nice to look at especially at night.

Beautiful exterior reminds me of the Chrysler Building in NYC. Now owned by National grid.No entry. Not far from the main business streets.

This is a stunning building and should definitely be stopped at to be admired. Before seeing this building, I'm not sure that I have ever appreciated art-deco architecture before.

This building is interesting, beautiful, and haunting. Be sure to take a walk around it to discover all of it's hidden details.
