I recommend the cocoa car. The seats are assigned so there is no rush getting to your seats. There is a small table for 4 seats. We have been taking the grandkids for at least 8 years. They said this was the best yet. Our 2 attendants were awesome. They were engaging and kept the children excited with Christmas carrols and games. We were provided with a large cookie and hot chocolate. Santa arrived at our car and his costume was wonderful. He looked great. He was very patient and took time for photos. Our experience has always been a good one because we are also involved, singing the songs, wearing our pj's and talking with the elves and other characters. You can make the experience so much better with your own actions.

Where do I begin... I paid for first class, and it's like they took a coach class and threw a tree up and small tables in. There was one car out of 10 that was actually decorated and looked nice while all the other cars were thrown together. Power kept going out. Sat for 15 minutes straight one time with the intermittent power outages making it cold, we were freezing. My sons hands were like ice cubes. We also had on winter jackets on and were still freezing. Music was wayyyyy too loud. I couldn't even hear the person talking right next to me. We asked them to turn it down, and they did for a little bit but then right back up it went. Hot cocoa was gross and not hot. Microphone kept squeaking so loud my ears were literally ringing like I was standing next to speakers at a concert. Santa's village was pathetic, a couple Christmas decorations next to an Agway. Also, those sitting on the right side of the train couldnt even see "Santa and his village." They didn't have us sitting together, and I were like yeah that's not happening. We bought 4 tickets for a reason, we're sitting together. I've waited six years to take this ride, with it always being sold out. I was excited to get tickets this year. To say I'm very disappointed is an understatement. Don't go, save your money!!

Purchased tickets on the Polar Express train ride. It was described as reliving the story with music and dancing. We were in the last train car that was very old compared to the ones we passed. Other cars were bright and cheerfully decorated, ours had one string of lights around the ceiling. We found our seats and looked forward to the fun. The lights above us flickered and went out, then the sound system didn’t work. If it wasn’t for the lights I previously mentioned it would have been completely dark. The workers tried to make the best of the situation by telling bad jokes and signing carols. We had dancers come in and they did their dance without any music. So awkward. Luckily, most of the kids seemed to be ok with things and had fun anyway.

Fun to be on an old train and see what it was like. The ride was smooth and all the workers and volunteers were super friendly and seemed to really enjoy their job. I heard there were snack and drinks but I didn’t get anything. Guests seemed to enjoy their experience. The weather was perfect that day in the 60’s and sunny. A good turnout I would say. I thought the price was fair for the ride. I have been on previous rides years ago, and I’m sure I’ll go again now that I live fairly close.

The ride was really enjoyable. The staff & volunteers were really friendly & always eager to please.

The scenery was fantastic. We were fortunate enough to sit with a couple that made the whole experience even more enjoyable.

Everyone on the trip was smiling & really enoying the ride .

The layover at Tupper Lake was enjoyable with music,, local art exhibits, & friendly residents that met the train . The whole experience was topped off with a great meal at a really enjoyable restaurant.

We are hoping that we will be able to repeat the experience again next year.

Thank you for a great time !

We took the train ride that went from Utica NY to Old Forge. It was a beautiful ride this time of year (fall). The whole process was easy and everyone was so kind. The volunteers who ran the train and was on board to help were wonderful!! I would highly recommend this for the whole family. We will be going back again next year!! 😊

Update website faq on what allowed on trip regards to food n drinks. We left food n drinks behind per youth website which was not easy with my health but I managed.

Post menu for so called dining car which is more a small selection snacks with more variety in some prepared simple cold sandwiches or some fresh easy fruit. Also when serving continental breakfast please add a small container juice or milk or hot drink. Am aware problem with hot drinks maybe idea eliminating better idea.

Help on train were super polite an friendly. One male in mid 50's needed wardrobe help having falling down pants an just looking dispelled in general.

Cars were super clean. Didcish all bathrooms were working but that was excused.

Also when reached destination a better info plan would have been helpful to get food. Due to some difficult stairs was decided we would get take out n bring back. Many kudos to staff at dinercwe did in Tupper Lake they went above n beyond to serve both us who wanted take out n those eating in an deserve medals for great food.

The picture event never did see but that was fine. But to return to train we were not allowed to return to seats due to people there were being allowed to tour so had to stand outside n wait for 20 minutes with food cooling since they used a one door in or out system. Thankfully was not too cold or wet but was very tiring an talking to help there was useless.

Also sorry to say Scenery was beyond boring n bland. Plus some activities when got there n publicized be a good idea.

This was my 3rd time doing this trip and a lot has changed since my last time. The mansion in Thendera is no longer open as a restaurant. Infact it is falling down. But that probably is privately opened.plus the scenic "boat" ride was also unavailable. Personally I blame COVID for both situations. We met some fantastic people who I'm sorry to say I will never run into again. But I have memories. Thank you to the couple who were our "seat buddies". They were there for part of the trip as they went to the "restaurant car" because he was 6'3 " and a little cramped sitting us. A shout out to the gentleman I shared my chocolate purchase with. I was in front of him and bought all the remaining toffee not knowing he wanted some. Sorry Man. The only down side was I read the weather forecast wrong and could have dressed alot warmer.
