My kids and I had a great time. We traveled 4 hours to get there. The train was a first for my 4 yr old son and he had a wonderful time singing and watching the story unfold. I will definitely go again.

The ride on the train going from utica to thendara was not horrible. Wouldve been better if there were more staff circulating the cars in route to interact with passengers. Had a 6 hour overlay in old forge. It was cold out, but had a great time. The pamphet provided made it seem like there would be a shuttle going up to inlet for the tree lighting but we were not given any information on when or where that would pick up. That was one of the attractions we were looking forward to doing and unfortunately could not. Wouldve been better if the shuttle service was more organized. (Let off 1 car at a time to the busses so people arent standing in the cold as long.) Also on the bus ride back, the bus driver informed us that with it being so cold, we would be able to board the train immediately. However, that was not the case. We took the first bus back to the station because of how cold it was(5pm) and were unable to board the train until 6pm. Also with the thendara station being as small as it is, this left people standing outside in the cold for about an hour. Boarding the train was a nightmare. The workers did not really relay information or directives on where to board so a large group of us were turned around mid train to re-exit and walk towards the back of the train to reboard. While walking through the cars, there were people walking the opposite direction as us causing potential tripping hazzards for children and elderly. I feel this couldve been completely avoided with proper directives prior and during boarding from staff members or if we were able to board as the busses came in like we were told by the bus driver. The ride back was absolutely unenjoyable because of a child and mother yelling the entire ride back. We were not the only ones complaining of this but the workers did not seem to care. They avoided out car majority of the ride. Just a suggestion, in the future, maybe have dedicated cars for families with younger children with some extra entertainment from Mrs. Claus.

Great local ride out of Thendara to Otter Lake and back. I have ridden several times and looking forward to next season riding further north to Tupper Lake. Very historic line of the former New York Central RR.

We boarded the train in Utica, NY at 8:30 am. We had Diamond tickets for the upper dome car. Beverages were served, non-alcoholic, then breakfast which was a breakfast sandwich. Lunch was served which was sandwiches. Food was good. We stopped in Tupper Lake where a craft show was in place in the station. The ride was interesting, especially when the conductor came up to the car and gave us information on the area and the train. Personnel were great, funny and very accomodating. We each received an alcoholic drink free and you could purchase more if you desired. The trip was about 9 hours long. We enjoyed the ride.

My Wife and I took this Fall train ride. The scenic ride of the Beautiful Fall Foliage, the Lakes, and Creek Beds, waving people at the railroad crossings. We have taken this ride to Old Forge many times in the past and this was the best. The rail workers were exceptionally friendly and courteous with a family friendly atmosphere. I placed tickets for 1st Class Coach and we were very pleased at the service, staff and foliage views. We were served a light breakfast on the trip up and had a choice of a meat and cheese tray, or shrimp cocktail on the return trip back. Plenty of Utica Coffee and drinks offered throughout. We had a great time and met some wonderful guest riders on our trip to Old Forge. Look Forward to next year’s trip!

Took this Fall train ride at the Peak Season! The scenic ride of the Beautiful Fall Foliage, the Lakes, and Creek Beds, waving people at the railroad crossings, wasn’t spoiled by the intermittent rain we had on our trip. The rail workers were exceptionally friendly and courteous within a family friendly atmosphere. We were served a light lunch and plenty to drink for our group of 5 Friends, along with a Full Train of Family and Friends! Our train ride ended with a Beautiful Rainbow over the scenic landscape and rainy weather we had during our ride! It was Fantastic!!

The trip was an excellent combination of quality facilities, high level service and a great view. The first two were attributed to Aderondak Scenic Railroad, the later to nature.

The train was clean and comfortable with a great view. Refreshments were very tasty.

But the best part was the service. The attendants were extremely helpful and provided what we needed quidkly and efficiently. This was the best service that we have experienced in years. Excellent.

We would say the trip was average. The volunteers were wonderful. It would be a nice addition to have someone narrate the trip along the way. There were many spots where we could have taken pictures, but you do not know what is coming up. If one of the volunteers were in your car at the time, they did point out what was coming and more information, but a narrated trip through speakers or headsets would be a great addition.
