Did the 3 hour bottom fishing trip trip on 7/31/18 with my wife and three children ages 8 and 6. Capt. Peter was very responsive to email questions I had about fishing with children and seeking calmer water for Aruba. Boat had plenty of room for my family of five and two mates. Crew was ready to go when we arrived at 8:00 and lines were in the water about 30 minutes after leaving the dock and anchoring up. Water was calm enough that there were no issues with the kids standing and moving around the boat. Stayed at the same spot for the entire trip and boated 30+ fish in about 2 hours of fishing, with far more lost baits than fished caught. Junior managed to hook most of the fish and then passed the poles off to the kids to reel in. The poles my wife and I were holding were regulary stripped of baits but the mate was very attentive to re-bait the hooks without the need to ask. Poles were a bit big for the kids to easily handle so the two crew members and my wife and I had the poles in our hands. Upon returning to the dock, I picked out a few fish to take and cook. Junior cleaned and bagged them for me. Overall the trip was one of the highlights of our vacation. I would recommend the bottom fishing trip to any family with younger kids who want a few hours on the water at a very reasonable price.

I fished on July 22,2018 by myself. Capt. Peter and Junior were on the boat. We fished the north side of the island. The capt. told me if the water gets to rough for me I will bring the boat more south where the Hotels are.He asked me this twice throughout the whole 4 hour trip. I had no problem with the waves but he didn't know that . I appreciated the sentiment. We had 9 good hits and we boated 5 good size barracuda. He took pictures of me and my fish at the dock.He then verified with me that if I am still going to the Salt and Pepper Restaurant to eat my catch. I replied yes and he gave me his card to give to the restaurant. They gutted some of the fish to send off so we can eat them later that night. I tipped Junior for doing a good job and that was it.The trip went very smoothly and I had a good time. I would have loved to catch every fish we hooked up but fishing is fishing. Thanks

This was my second time in Aruba, and my third time booking a fishing trip through Captain Peter. We were there 4 years ago- Jr was our 1st mate, we caught some fish, and overall had a great time so we booked another day to go out on the Melina. Overall very happy, everything went well.
4 years later- I find Captain Peter again and tell him I'm excited about going out fishing with his crew again, asked if Jr is still with them and we wanted go out with him again. I sent him some pictures from when we went etc. He never thanked us for re booking with him, never said thanks for the pictures, all short handed one liner responses- okay, that's fine. Maybe he is just not a happy person even though he is on "One Happy Island"
When we booked/reserved the boat, at the time we had 7 confirmed people- so I reserved two boats for $100 each- non refundable deposit. Last minute some family members bailed out of fishing, and one got sick late the night before, so we ended up with 3 people and only needing 1 boat. And yes I wasn't able to tell him till late the night before and he didn't get my one boat needed till early in the morning. I emailed him as soon as I found out we only needed one boat, but I wasn't till late the night before.
Captain Peter walks out on the dock and is all pissy saying "well what are we going to do about it?" I apologized numerous times, told him that people were confirmed and then bailed out and one got sick. He kept saying "what are we going to do about it" He had 2 boats out there and now he is out $200. I told him that I am sorry, and I paid a non refundable deposit and we only needed one boat. I explained that my Uncle was very sick and he said well that sucks for him but its not his problem.
So yes- it was crappy that we only used one boat, I hated losing my $100 deposit, and it sucks that he said he was out $200 but that is part of being a business owner. I felt a little less bad when he said he was booked up the rest of the week. But still, it was crappy, but he was rude and just overall not a nice person.
So my take always from using him, 3 times now
1- I'm not really sure he is a captain. He may be- but he appears to just be the booking agent for a lot of charters.
2- I always had a good time fishing- we only caught 3 this past time but it was rough out and no one really caught anything- the captains the mates have always been great on the boats, between all of the charters
3- Captain Peter is a fire cracker, jerk, and just overall not a nice/happy person. You can see this by his responses to bad reviews.
4- Would I book through Captain Peter again?? Probably not, I would rather give my money to a charter that doesn't have to pay a booking fee to go through Captain Peter
5- Booking online does not actually save you anything... it just reserves a boat for you at $100 which by the way is non refundable. :-)
And Captain Peter- I know you are going to probably respond with a fiery response, like you always do when someone gives you a bad review. You need to find some happiness in life.
I would give my FISHING experience a 5, Captain Peter a 1.

Sorry it took a while for my respond, but had to verify some things.
Why you waited till you got home to call me names like jerk?? You could have told me right away at the dock!
Why is it that some people's "balls" are growing and their brains are shrinking once they sit safe at home behind their computer?
Then give me one reason why I should thank you for your booking?? Captain and crew woke up at 4.30am for nothing, and your $100 deposit ( doubt if you payed them, guess the bailed out ones did) does not cover anything. I thank my customers after the trip for fishing with us !
Then nobody can book any other captain through my website, check if you find any other capt/ boat.
I did you a favor because you asked me. And yes, you save money by booking through the website by not paying commission to third party's.
Also I saved you $50 by booking capt Randy for you, he charges $350 for a half day!
And yes, I'm a happy person, untill I meet people who let me wake up at 4.30am, gear up a boat and and no show up.
Next time before you book, separate the boozers/ party people from the real fishermen, save you money and us a headache.
Then people like you make me consider to change my deposit policy like a lot of captains in the States do, some even up to 48 hours cancellation before the trip will pay the full amount.
Will Tripadvisor give us captains in the future the chance to rate our customers?? You still gave me a +1, thank you for that, minus 1 for you !
Have a nice day !!

We had a great experience with Melina Charters on 7/02/18. We left the dock at 6am and got great pictures of the sun rising over Moomba Beach. We had really good luck all morning and came back with Blackfin Tuna, King Mackerel and Barracuda. We pulled in our last King Mackerel just before we made it back to the dock. I would definitely book again.

We went out bottom fishing with light tackle on the Mr. Bonefish boat with Junior today. My 11 year old son caught 17 fish and I caught 3 and we had a great time and my son was so happy! Was nice being in calm but windy water. Caught all kind of fish, nothing huge but few hours of fun fishing.

My fishing experience was great. We went on Jan 12 6am. Rocky at the helm Junior on the deck. Guys were great and involved the whole time. We trolled which can get boring but when the fish hit the experience was great. Ended up catching big grouper at the end, which took everything I had to real in, but Junior kept me going and we got it. Most importantly I felt safe and comfortable with the crew as far as their familiarity on water. The Melina is a good bang for your buck--it's right there , convenient to hotels. We decided not to keep the fish but that was an offer they gave us. The owner was on dock when we got back and nice with my kid, who is 10 and he loved it, too. I'll be on that boat next year when I stay at Holiday Inn, which rocks. Plus, Junior has some great stories about growing up on the waters of Aruba .

To start with when Melina Charters has picked us up from the Riu, the man picked us up in a old rickety pickup truck that stuck of dog inside and had a dog In a cage in the pick bed.
On the boat now it was more catching fish than fishing as I was only allowed to reel in the fish and not to set the hook on the As the line snapped from the clip on the rigger, the man on working on the boat would set the hook first then hand it over to me.
Once at the pier and the fish my self and the wife was unloaded, I had ask if I could pack up the fish and bring them home to Canada, the boss of the operation that picked us up insisted that is was no possible and Aruba would let it happen but knowing dame will that is not the case as this was not my first rodeo deep sea fishing. After all was said I was told that he’s was going sell the fish 4 barracudas and 2 very large kingfish to the restaurant.
So he cashed in twice on me and cheated me out of me fish!!

Pfffff, there we go again!
First of all, I have no idea what my dog has to do with this, and yes, my truck is not new but clean inside and my dog has never been in the truck.
Next time U want to be picked up ask if they come with the extended Hummer with champagne.
Make sure that you are in the Ritz Carlton and not in the cheap Riu to keep your status up.
Then this is the way we fish in Aruba, only if we know our customers well they are allowed to set the hook.
The last time an unknown fisherman came with his own fighting belt and wanted to set the hook himself ended in the hospital with 8 stitches in his knee and he wanted me to pay the hospital bill because the water was too rough.
We ask always after the charter if our customers like to take fish to cook themselves or if they like me to set them up with a restaurant.
So we did with you.
As my website state you can not take all the fish, 1/3 if you insist.
But to make it up, contact our local UPS and I will still send you 15 lbs fish.
They charge $43 per pound for dry ice and $25 for a cooler, shipment comes extra and you have to take care of customs.
Then for your info, the fish was not sold but eaten by ourselves since the locals love the king and me and my family the cuda.
Next time you're in Aruba look me up and I invite you for a free session, as decoy for my K9 without a biting suit.
Regards, Capt. Peter

We went out on Mr. Bonefish this morning with Captain Mario. He was cheerful and helpful to my boys (8 and 10). We moved to three locations. We only caught three fish (that we could keep). We kept catching the red fish with the big eyes (my boys know the name - I don't know). So, we threw them back. Mario was very alert and ensured the boys didn't touch those fish. He kept everyone smiling. My boys understand that it's fishing not "catching".
We have been fishing this year in Mexico and DR (caught a Marlin). My oldest remarked that Mr. Mario was very helpful and nice even if we didn't catch anything "big".
As a single mother, I look at reviews for safety and "friendly staff". We fish on our vacations and don't want "non-friendly or non-helpful" staff. Mario was always quick to help. He took the time to actually teach my boys some fishing tips. You can't go wrong with this bottom fish trip especially for the price.

Wasn’t the best time. Should spend 50 more dollars and go with fishingyacharuba.com located in same pier. Friends went with that boat and caught trophy fish 3 days in a row.

I don't know who you are, and what you've been catching , but if you would have spent 50 dollars more you could also have been back on the dock within a hour, seasick.
He went to the rough side where we've been before with other boats with no luck.
So we try calmer waters and see if we can find fish there.
All the charter boats would love to losd their boat every day, but it's not always like that, this game is called fishing , not catching. And yes, somerimes one boat brings in more then another, and the next day maybe nothing.
To judge a boat just by spending a few hours on the dock is too easy.
My suggestion to you is go play golf or so, to prevent another day of being dissapionted out on the ocean
You can bring the hotse to the water, you can't make it drink!!

We went out on mr bonefish bottom fishing with captan perry. What a great trip, Perry put us on the fish in many spots. Never did he let the bitting stop for more then ten minutes. We caught fish I had only seen in aquariums. Perry was knowledgeable not only about the fish and where to find them but shared his knowledge about birds Aruba and then found us sea turtles to watch. Totally awesome way to spend the day fishing in paradise.

I'm looking to share a charter 7/28-8/3/16 Bob Clifton NJ
Hi Bob, thanks for your mail.
Sorry but I don't put party's together anymore, this due some bad experience in the past, almost had a fight in the boat once and the people blamed me for setting them up with a wrong party.
If you find someone to split, feel free.
Any more questions, feel free.
