A couple of weeks in Bordeaux for the world cup and we took a trip to St Emillion. Came across the Wine Buff attracted by the Irish Flag. What a gem of a wine shop. Run by Paddy o'Flynn from County Cork and his Wife Pillar. Great hospitality and some lovely tasting selection of wines ,no pressure to buy which was great. just found it really friendly atmosphere and a lovely place to pass an hour having a glass or two of what were really good wines. If you are in St Emillion which I would definitely recommend as a day trip from Bordeaux or even better a few nights away ,call in and sample some of the local produce ,you won't be disappointed .

My wife and I were in St Emilion at the end of April 2024. Since we are not as experienced with Bordeaux, like we are with Burgundies, we looked for a place that could help us appreciate the qualities of fine Bordeaux wine. The Wine Buff was at or near the top of most reviews so we decided to try it. We made an appointment with Pilar and we are so glad we did. Pilar is engaging and has an encyclopedic knowledge of Bordeaux wine. Her passion for the wine is obvious. Through the course of our wine tasting she helped us discover the subtleties and distinctive characteristics of white Bordeaux, St Emilion, Pommard and Margaux. We believe we learned more about wine appreciation in our hour and a half with Pilar than we could have reading several books. Meeting Pilar was one of the highlights of our 5-week European adventure! Naturally we bought a case and I can't wait for the right occasion ( or as Pilar would say, the right mood) to open a few. Thanks so much Pilar for sharing your vast knowledge and enthusiasm for good wine.

Amazing experience, beautiful wines and the most accommodating host. We sampled various red and whites and we just had to take some bottles home with us. Paddy and Pilar, from day one, welcomed us and went above and beyond on our special day. St Emilion is an amazing medieval town. The Wine Buff has a beautiful cave beneath their tasting room for events. Please reach out to them. They will make your event...ours was a wedding...special in every way. There are days in life you know you won’t forget and for us our visit to The Wine Buff St Emilion will be one of them. Whist doing some research on St Emilion wine tours prior to our hols in France I found The Wine Buff online and knew instantly that was for us , following a herd around a chateau just didn’t sound appealing so this sounded perfect. We had simply an amazing visit meeting Paddy who provided us with truly outstanding wines accompanied with plenty of craic. His knowledge and wealth of experience we could have listened all day and we are still talking about our visit now we are home. All in all a beautiful wine shop ran by Paddy and his lovely wife Pilar , the tasting room is stunning , the selection is outstanding and if you visit you most certainly will leave with the memories we did. We Googled the town before we went and found this place with good reviews. We weren’t disappointed! The owner greeted us and spent time with us, outlining wine and the difference between French wine and the wine we buy at home. Fascinating. Welcoming and friendly, not pushy for sales. We came away with exactly what we wanted (and could afford!). Would recommend you visit.

In just 30-40 minutes in his company, Paddy completely transformed the way I understand, appreciate, and enjoy wine.
