I think this island is one of the most beuatiful places I have ever seen till now. I just follow in love with it. It is a unique and beautiful place and form Scala Fenicia you can see the beauty of the island. You will see this is an unique place.

Walked down this old historic stepped route after a visit to Anacapri. The top section from the main road to Anacapri was closed for repair forcing us to walk along the main road to get to the route. A very scary experience. The route itself is in good condition. Views are amazing. Steep in places but safe. Took us about 30 mins to reach the port at a relaxed pace. Well worth doing.
Route shows up on Google maps and you cannot get lost. Do it.

We walked down from anacapri to pier at late afternoon in may when weather is not hot, so it’s really an enjoyable experience to walk and watch such wonderful seaside view under breezing. However, it’s also challenging as all the way down are steps, some more flat but some a bit steep so just very few people taje this option back to Capri. It took us around 45min to arrive pier. But if don’t mind to walk and reserve some more time like an hour or more, it’s another valuable though not that popular option in Capri

Did this in August and glad we took water with us. It is like climbing 100 consecutive ladders. There are a lot of steps. Views are brilliant on the way up and comes out at a tremendous viewing point over the marina at Capri. Following that there is lovely row of shops and restaurants before reaching the main piazza at Anacapri. Nice but wear sturdy shoes and take a drink.

Scoring goals is easy if you are Christiano Renaldo; tennis comes easy to Roger Federer; and walking up or down the Scala Fenicia (Phoenician Steps) is easy too if you’re reasonably fit. Take this into account when reading reviews of this attraction and don’t be misled by comments that make it sound like a walk in the park. It’s a big hill and there are lots of steps - apparently over 900 of them - we didn’t count.
We’ve walked it twice (with many years between), on both occasions going downhill from Anacapri. That way you’re facing the view and not the mountain which to us is preferable…and perhaps it’s slightly less tiring on the knees (although not much). My wife has had various knee operations, the last of which was in January 2017, and she managed to do it with no ill effects.
Starting point for going up the way is to head to the bus station along from Marina Grande and follow the coastal road (via Marina Grande). As it curves uphill you come to a bus stance and just beyond here there is a sign for “Scala Fenicia” in tiles on the wall. Go up the stairs and keep going. The stairs are eventually split by the road as it winds up the hillside, just cross over with care.
If you choose to come down the way, the starting point for the descent is just beyond Villa San Michele which is at the opposite end of the narrow walkway leading from the base of the chairlift to Monte Solaro (via Capodimonte).
There are great views over Capri harbour and the surrounding area and it’s a bit of exercise which saves a wait on a bus or a cab fare. We found a few bits of the path in the lower section have been damaged and hopefully this will be attended to out of season. Most recently on reaching the bottom we stopped off at Ristorante da Gemma for a very good lunch and some refreshments.
The mountain has netting to reduce the risk of being hit by rockfall, a comfort which the women didn’t have originally when tramping up and down the steps with water prior to this being pumped up to Anacapri. You may wish to take some of your own if it’s hot.

So we were the idiots who walked up! We only came across 4 other people doing it and they were going down. On a Sunday afternoon, I think it is the only place on the island where there are no tourists. It was worth every step!
I am an unfit 50 year old and my husband is 54. I found it very tough, but we completed it within 40 minutes with only one bottle of water between us on a very hot day. I thought my chest was going to burn up at some stages but we stopped plenty and the sense of accomplishment is awesome. We would definitely do it again as the views are stunning.
By the way, I downloaded a few navigation maps onto my phone and the one, HERE, was extremely convenient throughout Italy. No data connection required. The Scala Fenicia is not easy to find on your own. We never got lost once and never had to ask the way either. In fact on Capri it took us through quiet little streets with not a soul in them. For a Sunday that is quite an achievement on Capri. We used it in Rome, Tivolli, and around the towns of Lake Como, everywhere. No more turning the huge map over and over and looking like a lost tourist.
I think that going down will be better as you often neglect to turn and look at the view if you are climbing up.

My husband and I decided to walk down the steps from Anacapri to return to Capri. I'm not particularly fit, but figured going down would be no problem. Boy, was I wrong! Cardio-wise it was completely fine, but I had trouble balancing as the steps were so steep and so was having to place both feet on each step. By half way down my legs were like jelly and I didn't think I was going to be able to make it to the bottom! At least now I know I need to work on my quads! Anyway, we took it very slowly (it took over an hour) and I made it in the end, with lots of breaks spent to enjoy that incredible view. I'm still pleased that we did the walk (now that I'm safely at the bottom!) but if you do struggle with descents just be wary.

all 972 stairs going upwards ; from marina grande to Anacapri . its worth the hike, much better going up because they are irregular,steep and play havoc on your knees . takes about 50min. you will stop infront of the villa San Michelle which is definately worth visting . spectacular views .

We walked from the marina to the top of Anacapri via the stairs, and WOW, whatta hike!!! 1,000 steps up. We were the only people on the stairs the entire trip, so it’s not well traveled. But I would say that if you didn’t do it, you missed out.
Views are AMAZING! Photo opportunities galore.
BUT.....it is a workout. We’re not young (60) and not using the stair master at home! But we did it and it took under an hour. I’m sure a 20 something could do it in 1/2 the time. Bring water along because there is nothing for your journey along the way.
Once on top, shop, drink, dine, ride the chairlift. Great to do on a cooler morning. We took a cab back to the marina since we had to catch a ferry.
You’ll be glad you decided to take the hike.

Just climbed these amazing steps. It’s tough going but well worth it - fantastic views, clean air & bags of exercise.
Not to be missed - few make the effort so it’s actually really peaceful. Wear sturdy trainers or waking shoes & bring water.
Treat yourself to a latte once you get to the top.

Nous venons de le faire aujourd’hui même un peu par hasard, je dois l’avouer. On a mis environ 45 minutes pour descendre jusqu’au port. Très belle vue mais un peu physique quand même. Pensez à prendre de l’eau et de bonne chaussures.

Ne le faites surtout pas avec des bagages parce que les marches sont assez fatigantes. Il faut compter au moins 45 mn, depuis le centre d'Anacapri, ou 30 mn environ depuis la villa San Michel, à deux pas du haut de l'escalier.

Im told that the women of old carried bread to or from the bottom of the steps were a bakery exsists. What is the name of that bakery, PLEASE!

Sorry, I do not know that there exists a bakery at the bottom of the steps. If there exists one it's very hidden (or most probably it does not exist any more).
