I heard about this Marian shrine from my tour guide, who happened to casually mention it during our tour of the town. I was excited because I’d been in Fatima just 10 days earlier. The Sanctuary of the Apparitions, dedicated to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, is now a chapel that once belonged to the Congregation of the Dorothean Sisters. Sister Lucia, one of the Fatima seers, was a novice here. In 1925, 8 years after her last Fatima apparition, Sister Lucia had a vision of the Holy Virgin and the Christ Child while she was in her cell on the second floor of the convent. It was requested of Sister Lucia, now 18 years old, to promote the establishment of the Five First Saturdays devotion, a Catholic custom. A second apparition in 1926 once again encouraged the Devotion of Reparation to The Immaculate Heart of The Blessed Virgin Mary. The Sanctuary has their hours posted on a sign outside the door. It was closed when I went the first time, and I was delighted to find it open when I returned. The nun that warmly welcomed me was happy to share the story of Sister Lucia. The second-floor chapel, once Lucia’s cell, exudes a powerful feeling of peacefulness. A beautiful experience!

One of Galicia's most visited places, not so much for what you see, which isn't much, but for the religious significance. Here, in an upstairs room which is now a chapel, it is claimed that Our Lady of Fatima appeared, accompanied by a boy on a cloud.

You would not expect such location in a narrow street like this into the old town, but anyhow this location is to be considered as the third most important Marian shrine, this after Lourdes and Fatima in Portugal, this mentioning only for the Catholic religion. It was Pope John Paul II, on the 75th anniversary of the apparition of the Virgin of Fatima to the Portuguese Sheppard children, who granted the status of sanctuary; In spite of this, it continues to be a great location and unknown to the people. History tells us that it could be this or a previous one who stood on this location before, this why it seems the place where the Jewish synagogue was located in the Middle Ages, as here was settled the Aljama, or the Jewish quarter of the town.
