We visited Old Baldy. It was a very nice old lighthouse with some spectacular views of the island. We were there at the end of August so it was pretty warm up at the top with little ventilation. It was still real interesting though.

Took the ferry over to the island then made the walk across the bridge over the low area & up the paved road to the lighthouse. A very unique, old building that is not the round cylinder shape that most people think of. You can climb to the top on wooden steps from the base to each of the wooden... More

A bit of history and nice view of the island from the top. I would rather spend my time on the beach but nice for a afternoon or morning break.

Cool lighthouse. Very historic but only one piece of an amazing island. One of the great ones along the NC coast. Do a tour from Corolla to Bald Head

Awesome old lighthouse with lots of history. About the only attraction that is reasonably priced ($6). Tough climb, lighthouse needs some TLC but a beautiful view once the top is reached

We took the two hour historic tour of Bald Head Island which included touring and climbing the lighthouse. This lighthouse was unique in that the stairs to the top (103) were wooden instead of the usual iron staircases found in most lighthouses. They seemed much easier to climb then most with generous landings. The last flight of stairs are straight... More

Old baldy is a great experience for any age. The stairs and entrance to the top are a bit scary and claustrophobic but it is cool to think that you are standing in the oldest light house in the state. To think that generations before you stood in that same light house is pretty cool considering North Carolina's rich pirate... More

Wanted to see a lighthouse. We got to see it. Was somewhat underwhelmed by it all, but am still glad we went. It is not currently operating, but we knew that when we went. It was a tight squeeze getting to the very top, and it was quite warm up there. But what was disappointing once there was the fact... More

We had 5 kids with us (ranging from 3 to 7) and all went up fine but there are some tight and steep spots. The very top is small so we had to take turns but if offers a great eagle eye view of the island. Kind of expensive though for what it is.

We rented a golf cart to explore the island in general and made sure we paid the small fee to climb to the top of the lighthouse. The views are beautiful from the top; however, it was very hot at the top and a small area to view the surroundings. The history information in the gift shop is interesting.
