Visited this and foggy mountain. Got the small bucket at doc's rocks as part of the ultimate ticket to mystery Hill. In comparison with foggy mountain, these are small buckets with just sand instead of large gravel, so as soon as you rinse the dirt,...More

Visiting the NC mountains over the weekend meant hiking, cavern tours and a stop and Doc’s for an opportunity to unearth some hidden treasure. As a family with three small children, the idea of “panning” was something they “had” to check out. While the outside...More

This is one of a couple of "Gem Mine" activities in the area. For kids it is a great way to learn about various gems and minerals. and gives them a fun thing to do when on vacation.

We bought a bucket loaded with gems and “mined” it between the kids! They had a great time seeing what would appear next! Great activity for them. Then we went inside and the girl told them what kind of magical stones they had found! The...More

We had a very nice time here. We ordered the medium bucket and the three of us sifted for about 20-30 minutes (mostly helping my seven year old son). I wish we had done the big bucket! We found several bigger stones/gems and chose to...More

There are a lot of great things about this place: convenient location right alongside 321; buckets of dirt seeded with a nice variety of stones; an indoor sluice so you can "mine" out of the cold and rain if the weather turns bad. But the...More
