We read all the great reviews and my son was very much looking forward to going here. I guess it was an unusual day...although the staff was kind, we didn't receive very much attention. After my son got the stones out of his medium bucket, it took about two minutes for the man to separate them and bag them. Not... More

I am sorry to hear that we were not up to what you had expected. I would like to know a bit more on who helped you in the shop and why the museum was not opened for you and your son to go through since we had the staff for it this week. Please email me personally and we... More

Had an incredible time at Doc's. We visited 3 times while we were in Boone. Gem mined for Local rocks (not all of the mining places offer local finds) and these 5 adults had a great time. When we came back, was told about their fossil museum upstairs (don't miss this collection!) My daughter had been in a car accident... More

Doc's Rocks is always a favorite place to visit when family & friends come to town. The staff is very helpful & my kids have a blast mining for their own gems! My favorite thing about Doc's is the owner's huge heart. One October day out of every year, he donates 100% of the sales to a local breast cancer... More

Well worth the money. Medium buckets are prefect for two children. They include a large amount of stones and rocks. Not disappointed.

We visited twice in 2 days. The first time we used the indoor flume to find stones. So much fun and it was heated!!! They have a little attached coffee tea shop wich was also great. We went back the second day for the fossil museum (amazing!) And got a private tour by very knowledgeable and fun staff!. We did... More

We visited Doc's Rocks last week on a trip to North Carolina with my two sons ages 9 and 12. I had fairly low expectations because we had visited a mine further south a couple of years ago and had to dig our own dirt and only found a couple of very small stones. Still, our children had a great... More

When we arrived at Doc's Rocks, my family of one teen, three pre teens, and one toddler was greeted by a friendly woman. She kindly instructed us about the bucket options and we chose one. Once you got your bucket, one of their excellent staff members helped us to get started. They showed us what to do to mine and... More

We spent about an hour at the gem mine on a day we skipped the ski slopes and the kids had a real good time. We got a big bucket and it kept the kids interested for a while. We ended up with a bunch of bags of rocks and we even had a few cut into jewelry. Prices seemed... More

We go to Blowing Rock 3-4 times per year and take our 8 year old daughter to see Doc once or twice each time. We have had very good success in finding Gem's. In 2015, she found a Ruby which ground and polished came out to 9 ct's. We have a great time here and staff is great.
