Wonderful staff and well kept. They have excellent child care for the youngest who don't ski. It's a small resort, which is great for families with children different ages.

We go annually to the Boone are for skiing. Appalachian Ski Mountain is never missed. The lifts are close together so you rarely lose your group. The runs are typical NC. Short and icy. Plenty of parking spots. Minimal fee of $1 for parking.

App Ski Mountain is a small resort. If your family is getting into the snow-sports scene then I would recommend this mountain. This resort doesn't have many trails and the vertical isn't intimidating. They have a good mix of blue and green runs. My sister...More

Great question! Elk mountain just out of Boone NC has a cross country club and club maintained trails at base of Elk mtn parking area. Also ,as far as solo trails, Moses cone trail in Blowing Rock NC is amazing! Enjoy!

I would not expect snow that early, it really depends on the temp if they can make it or not. I would look further north like Snowshoe Mtn or anywhere in the Poconos for snow that early...And I would say about 15 miles and... More
