We have visited Appalachian once each year for several years while teaching our young grandchildren how to ski. The food is outstanding. the slopes are very well groomed. This is a grweat mountain to begin your skiing venture on.
My husband and I visited here during our anniversary weekend getaway. It was pretty pricey, so be prepared. It was our first time skiing, and they go all out to provide you with any and everything that you may need--from equipment to clothes to lessons....More
Ok first off the weather wasn’t ideal for real snow but their man-made slopes were actually pretty good. I was impressed with their hours and the prices, very reasonable for the families we were with. They have varying difficulty with the slopes, and both skiers...More

Plenty of parking spots. Minimal fee of $1 for parking.

Great question! Elk mountain just out of Boone NC has a cross country club and club maintained trails at base of Elk mtn parking area. Also ,as far as solo trails, Moses cone trail in Blowing Rock NC is amazing! Enjoy!

I would not expect snow that early, it really depends on the temp if they can make it or not. I would look further north like Snowshoe Mtn or anywhere in the Poconos for snow that early...And I would say about 15 miles and... More
I would not expect snow that early, it really depends on the temp if they can make it or not. I would look further north like Snowshoe Mtn or anywhere in the Poconos for snow that early...And I would say about 15 miles and about 30min drive time on curvy road. Hope this helps.
