My family absolutely loves this place! We have been coming since the kids were 2. The mountain is perfect for kids and just enough to keep the adults entertained too. It is a quick trip from Charlotte and very affordable. The lodge is older but...More

Great question! Elk mountain just out of Boone NC has a cross country club and club maintained trails at base of Elk mtn parking area. Also ,as far as solo trails, Moses cone trail in Blowing Rock NC is amazing! Enjoy!
I would not expect snow that early, it really depends on the temp if they can make it or not. I would look further north like Snowshoe Mtn or anywhere in the Poconos for snow that early...And I would say about 15 miles and... More
I would not expect snow that early, it really depends on the temp if they can make it or not. I would look further north like Snowshoe Mtn or anywhere in the Poconos for snow that early...And I would say about 15 miles and about 30min drive time on curvy road. Hope this helps.
