There is an admission fee to this spectacular rock structure but they invest the money into improvements. Went here 10 years ago prior to children and the improvements they made are impressive. But plan on climbing some stairs to appreciate the spectacular views.

Love this place. Used to come as a kid and returned with my 1 year old riding on my back. Easy enough hike, great views. Don't waste your time with their little nature center but if they added more to it, it could be a nice addition in the future.

The views from the top of the rock are awesome. Lots of grass and well marked paths. You can either take the elevator or stairs to the top--your choice. The rangers themselves are nice, but there was one staff member who saw our Ohio plates and tried to tell us the park was closed (because I'm from the north; I... More

Let me start by saying, the Elevator is broken and the shop worker told us it would not be fixed until Fall. So be prepared to take 499 stairs to the top if you go. I am terrified of heights, but with my husband's arm and tunnel vision I made it to the top! It was cold and windy the... More

Everything about this park is absolutely amazing. It was a true highlight during our Thanksgiving trip! The elevator to the top was not operating when we were there, so you had to walk up, but the walk up was totally worth it with breathtaking views. We passed a little cavern and after checking it out we went to the top... More

We visited it on January 2. The day was foggy but we found this place nice and memorable. The rock was hidden in fog and looked like from a fairy tale. The elevator didn't work and we took pictures from the ground. We went to the fall. The walk was not long. It could be done with children.

I loved it, it was not easy to get there from Little Switzerland but such accomplishment to get up the rock, so well worth the stair climbing to the very top , views are spectacular!!!

Did all the trails and Chimney Rock in 2.5 hrs. Easy. if you are a serious hiker and love nature this is not a spot for you. You will be dodging crowds on the weekends. Drive up a little it further to Pisgah National forest where the trails abound and you can hike your heart out!

I do wish it had been a clear day (for the view) but hiking into a cloud was a pretty darn cool experience! Great exercise too, all those steps! If you go, be prepared with comfortable shoes and take plenty of water. Even on a cool day. As a local, I've been to Chimney Rock many times and I've never... More
