Great hard working Coast Guard Base loaded with 75+ Years of History

I'm biased, as I am currently the Base Commander but this is a great base w/lots of history, celebrated our 75th Anniversary last year with a series of very special events. Come... read more

Followed signs and drove to area. From road, we could see some airplanes but area had not been mowed and looked overgrown. Went down road to guard station and was asked for military identification. Husband presented Veteran of US Army Identification and was told they did not accept that. Was advised this was primarily a facility where airplanes are repaired... More

I'm biased, as I am currently the Base Commander but this is a great base w/lots of history, celebrated our 75th Anniversary last year with a series of very special events. Come see why Elizabeth City was named as an official "Coast Guard City". For lodging there are Trailers on the Base, Cabins on the Water and RV Spots for... More

We stayed in a trailer - which we don't recommend. Try the cabins. They have a nice but small base exchange.

If you are authorized military privleges, this is a nice little base complete with a lot of facilities normally associated with a larger base. In addition to food & fuel, there is a nice small beach, some trailer rentals, credit unions, gym, and so forth. Enjoyed the trip

By Coast Guard Standards, a very nice facility. Not much of an urban environment but that's close enough in Chesapeake VA to the North. Reasonably cheap housing and plenty of outdoor activities, particularly hunting, freah water and saltwater fishing, and the beaches of the Outer Banks of NC nearby. You won't find Five Star places anywhere but there some very... More

We love the CG base, but that's not surprising considering we are Coasties ourselves! Our family enjoys everything the base has to offer and we have done pretty much everything there is to do there. This base has a nice little gym, beach with a play area, volleyball net, basketball courts and playgrounds away from the water. We have also stayed... More

The air base has really changed over the years but was welcomed aboard for a visit with my family. Stationed at Air Station 1968-1971 flying as aircrewman in C130's, Hu16's and HH52's. The base has really expended it's facilities and the new barracks and chow hall was impressive. Enjoyed shopping at the Exchange and bought out the store.

If you don't have the ability to get onto a USCG base contact their public affairs department and try to get on the tour of the air station. We did this and it was super awesome! We got to meet and chat with aircrews for both the HH-60 Jayhawk and the C-130J. If you don't know much about the coast... More

Was stationed at the Air Station in 1974 - 1978; a lot of great memories although I note there's not too many goats and 52's flying anymore :-).
