We did a kayak trip and stayed in a Roanoke River Partners platform outside of Hamilton. Went up to see the Halifax historic district. Perfect patriotic day trip for Independence Day.

This is a great place to take the kids. The visitors center has a museum and a very informative 15 min video. Most of the historic area is within walking distance. There are several guided tours which are completely free.

Don't forget Halifax Jr.Womens Park. Eat a picnic lunch while the children play! We love this...especially at the end of Oct. The weather is amazing.

The people who run this State historic site do a great job with a large number of areas to interpret. There are frequent special events and a whole lot to see.
