We stayed for five days at the Van Hook Campground attached to Cliffside. We stayed at sight 7 right across from the host in a tent only site. It was a WONDERFUL experience! We have a 3 year old son who loved camping there. I have NEVER seen restroom facilities in a Campground more cared for and maintained. The only... More

Trails are overgrown. Lots of roots showing in the trails and easy to trip. The lake is very low due to repairs being done to the dam. Not much fun.

A very nice beach and swimming area just of the Callasaja River Gorge (Highland) road. There are picnic tables and a nice "clubhouse," changing facilities with bathrooms. There is a float out in the water. All for four bucks a carload. No lifeguards were on duty. This is a damned lake, shallow and much warmer than one would think for... More

My adult son and I decided to picnic here on our way to falls. We paid $4 to park and had a wonderful, quiet lunch. The picnic area has several tables - some under trees and some under shelters. It was a nice, little stop.

We spent 6 days camping at the adjacent Vanhook Glade campground and thoroughly enjoyed the recreation area. We fished almost daily, our young kids (5 and 7 yrs), easily completed the beautiful trail that loops around the lake. We loved the campground, one of the best we've ever stayed at! We fell in love with Highlands, NC! Note: try to... More

We had no idea what to expect, but pulled in with our 2 teens and dog and payed the $4 day fee. We really enjoyed it! They had clean changing rooms and we all changed and hopped in the lake. Small but clean swimming area. We walked around the lake and our dog was able to wade it. People were... More

We stopped by as an afterthought and found this to be a beautiful and peaceful place. A few local families there fishing. Nice place for a picnic and a peaceful walk. It is not a large lake.

Easy walk around the lake. Gorgeous reflections in the lake. Fall leaves create a beautiful image. Ranger Falls trail was poorly marked until recently until an organization has cleaned it up and marked it. Worth the three mile loop hike.
