My husband and I and our 2 dogs hiked this area as a day hike. The views are incredible, but we like peace and quiet and it was far from it. The entire area was crowded with tents and people. Cars were parked up and...More

I have hiked and driven to most places in the Smoky Mountain and Western North Carolina mountains (actually was raised in WNC), but this is by far the best 360 degree panoramic view I have ever seen of them. I will be returning to see...More

Max Patch is such a wonderful place to go and hike. Take the left side up and the right side down. The left is a little shorter it is easier. The right side does have some stairs if that is hard on you stick with...More

After an interesting drive, up a seldom marked gravel road, you park along the side of the road. But the best part is ahead. Follow the easy trail up the mountain, join the AT (Appalachian Trail, white stripe) and quickly arrive at he summit. WOW,...More

The road to Max Patch is well travelled, but you may not realize that at first. I was meeting a hiker at Max Patch and had never been there. I was seriously wondering if I'd made a wrong turn as I bumped along the dirt...More

Fairly easy trip up and around the mountain to the top. We took the hard trail but it was easy as it winds around instead of straight up. The views are worth the sweat equity! The road up can be confusing and rough. Dont forget...More

Amazing view with a relaxation feeling being on top of the mountain. The trail was free of debride and easy to walk thru. Parking was convenient, even parking on the side of the road to the trail.

Long drive and narrow roads, and be prepared as we didn’t have phone service for GPS on our way down. Somehow we got turned around and drove one way up and another way down, and thought we were lost. The road did take us back...More

It would be about 7 miles away/around 20-30 min. at a campground store on Meadow Fork Rd. No facilities at all at Max Patch.

No cost. Max Patch itself is a bald. 360 degree view for miles once on top. You can hike either direction on the Appalachian trail and be in a forest within about 1/2 mile.
