My lofty goal of visting 40 NC state parks brought me here. It is a new park and I assume has some future plans. Not much here. However, there is a nice 2 mile loop trail.

Visited with a group from Leadership Rockingham. Nice shelter for family gatherings. Beautiful area by the river. Nice access for kayaking and tubing on the river. The staff is knowledgable on the nature surroundings and there to help!

Wow! Did not know this was here so close to home. After starting the NC State Parks Passport. Program / booklet ... just had to visit. It's still a work in progress, but very nice. Trails are expanding. Will be worth a trip back in...More

When I first visited Mayo River State Park, I knew it was a work in progress but I didn't know how big of a park it actually is. I've only recently discovered the Wiki page that says that it is over 2,000 acres and discovered...More

This is a really pretty state park, though with limited use by a tourist as it does not currently have camping. I understand that they are working towards adding camping but it isn't available at this point. There is a real draw here for the...More

Fishing, hiking, birding, and photography all in one place. The trail was well marked, and turtles in the pond were fun to watch. There were two shelters with well maintained facilities. We enjoyed the day.

While we appreciate having Mayo River State Park up the road from us, it really isn't much of a park. There is a large shelter house that is nice for summertime get-togethers and such, but the parking lot is pretty small. If there is a...More

You would think a park by the name of Mayo River State Park would be situated on the "river". Well, it's not. I'm really hard pressed to give this State Park 3 stars.....more like 2.5. I would agree that the picnicking areas and the shelter...More

There is a short trail around the lake, and a loop trail in the woods about 1.5 miles. The trails are easy and well maintained.
