We were on a quest to see all 4 OBX lighthouses. Once on Ocracoke this one is easy to get to. A short walk down a level plank path and you are there.

This is a great "quick stop" for kids to learn about what a lighthouse is and how they work. The grounds are very well maintained and you can see everything in less than 15 minutes.

It's shorter than you'd expect and not sitting on the water. Once you get past that, it's an amazing piece of history and an iconic photo with the family. Important part of East Coast maritime history.

Have seen this a few times but the first time they opened it up to explore the inside - unable to climb the stairs but quite interesting to see the inside base and look up the stairs - what a magnificent light she is!

You can't go up in this lighthouse, but it makes for pretty photographs. Definitely worth the visit if you're in Ocracoke. Ride a bike or walk, it's not easy to park a car nearby.

We swung by the lighthouse while exploring the island via golf cart. It was interesting reading about its history and that is one substantial lighthouse.

Wish we could go inside! Just like the photographs in Dare Wright's book, "Holiday for Edith and the Bears" from 1958!

This is nice to see, and the grounds are well-kept, but you can't go in the Lighthouse or walk up inside. It's not a "stunning" attraction, but it is worth a walk or a bike ride to see one of North Carolina's landmarks.

Basically all you can do is walk up to the lighthouse. My advice? Get a tour guide. They make things way more interesting. Ocrakoke has a deep heritage.
