Great Fossils

second time here but only walked around the bottom area this time. One can climb to the top of the hill but I saw very good fossils at the bottom.

We went to Riversleigh Fossil Fields as an added side trip on our Cape York Adventure with Dick Lang Desert Safaris. My wife quite enjoyed it, but I found rather underwhelming and not really worth the $75-00 per person cost. The guide was good, explaining various fossilized objects, but there seemed to be very few of these about. The walk... More

We were in the area of the fossil fields about a week ago during our adventure around Australia, exploring the crater impact zone that formed a lot of the terrain all those years ago. The place is dry, dusty and hot so it feels like a couple of other places we have been that have dinosaurs like Drumheller AB near... More

Don't go expecting dinosaur skeletons but this is well worth a visit and walking the short circuit track that has fossils and interpretive signs. There's a toilet as well

We visited the Riversleigh fossil fields over the Easter weekend. There is not a whole lot to see at the site and it only takes an hour to complete a comprehensive visit. We also visited the Riversleigh section at the Outback Centre in Mount Isa and this provided a lot more information, although we had to pay for this part.... More

We went to Lawn Hill, primarily, but were happy to visit this place. In late Sept, it is HOT, dry and crawling with flies, roughly 50 kms from the gorge on a good dirt road. Undoubtly, archeologists would be absolubtly fascinated with the fossils on display there but we were a little underwhelmed. The view from the top of the... More

Although you cannot book them, but worth waiting for one to canoe up to the waterfalls and swimming (morning to lunch so not so hot ). Very enjoyable. Adel's Grove not too bad for a camp although a bit dusty if not in the Grove.

Informative boards and displays. The self guided walk is well worth the climb to the top of the site for the expansive views of the surrounding country.

the geology is awesome, but not spectacular to behold. I rather enjoyed the view across the landscape... and I will not forget the story of the Lady who broke up a cattle muster by wandering to take photos.

We took a guided tour from Adel Grove in hope of learning a lot about the Fossil fields and the area. Geoff the guide was great with his knowledge of the area and history but it could not make up for the lack of fossil left. I suggest if you driving by stop and have a look but don't spend... More
