This was our second visit to Fraser, returning after 20+ years to introduce our teen boys to the delights of beach driving and swimming in pristine lakes. Merve was great, providing us with all the info we needed leading up to the trip and giving us great advice on the day. The car was very comfortable and I did not got bogged even ones!!!. After looking at different places to rent a 4x4 for Fraser, we decided to go with this company for our 6th time overthere.
They were kind enough to give us the 4x4 the afternoon before our actual trip on the island so we could catch the barge early the next day.
Good communication, prices are ok ( we did get off-peak prices while it was still school vacations).
The 4x4 are definitely not new but they look like to be well maintained. We had only a minor issue with the central locking not working.
Otherwise the 4x4 are the right rig for the job, big tires with the correct pressure, a body lift, dual fuel tanks and to my surprise the auto gearbox did well in the sand (I'm a manual minded guy...)
There are quite some rules to be followed but Fraser can be unforgiving for those without proper 4x4 sand driving experience, especially the 60km/h max speed. But looking at my GPS, driving at 60km/h gave us a real ground speed of 75km/h.
The beach driving time are also quite restrictives but for good reasons: it can be very tricky to find a safe line with high tide and they probably lost some 4x4 this way. Good friends of ours lost their brand new 4x4 that way!
Unfortunately it is not permitted to drive north of Champagne Pools, but again the famous Ngala Rocks are not easy.
The fact that the 4x4 are GPS tracked should be more clearly said to the customers, I think.
I didn't mind about it but I was not specifically told about it.
To sumarize, I can recommand them and would actually rent again there.

Beach driving times are based around the tides and are unfortunately outside our control. While tides can sometimes be restrictive, we always give a customized itinerary based around beach driving times so you don't have to miss out on any highlights and you can make the most of your time on Fraser Island. (We've seen many many vehicles lost to the ocean on Fraser Island from not following tide times so it is something we definitely enforce not only for our vehicles but for the safety of our customers!)
Thank you for the feed back about the GPS tracking we will enforce this in our handovers from now on.

We hired a 4wd from Rainbow Beach 4x4 Hire for my family of 5 for, 7 days and couldn’t have been happier.
From the first contact the team provided great service and made the process clear and easy, answering all my questions.
The 100 series Landcruiser we were provided was immaculate, had a 2inch lift, new tyres and was a perfect match for the conditions, it was clear that they take pride in fleet.
When I picked the car up, Merv who I think has been running the business for 20 years, was a great source of useful tips and advice, which along with the videos provided as part of the booking, helped me avoid any issues.
Talking to the locals of Rainbow Beach it seemed that everyone we spoke to knew Merv. It quickly became clear that he is well known and well respected and has a strong reputation for providing a great service.
If you need a 4wd I highly recommend going to Rainbow Beach 4x4 Hire.

We were a group of 6 people and we rented a car for two days in Fraser Island. The 4wd was in great condition and we could drive along the beach and the inland paths with no problem. They provided us with all the camping equipment and all was in good condition too. Would recommend them 100%.

Vehicles well maintained and very comfortable to drive. Went with a family group and we hired 3 vehicles for a week. The ability to make our own itinerary dependent on weather and tide conditions is great. Thanks to Merve for the professional advice, guidance and instruction provided from the outset - we will be returning customers. We purchased our own walkie talkies for the trip which was useful when travelling in convoy. Thanks again Merve and team!.

As a first time Fraser Island visitor wanting to drive on the beach & explore the island, Merve at Rainbow Beach 4 x 4 hire made it all very easy. He was very easy to work with, went out of his way to get us trained up and on the early barge. Land cruiser vehicle was very well maintained, drove well and made easy work of the soft sand and bush tracks. The hire office was within walking distance to the Rainbow Beach center, secure parking nearby. Made the whole experience very easy & very comparable rates. Strongly recommend this hire service.

We hired a 4wd from Rainbow Beach 4x4 Hire for our family of 5 for, 2 days.
If you need a 4wd I highly recommend going to Rainbow Beach 4x4 .
Merve was a great contact and real local character. We had a great chat about everything from Dingos to the Newtown Jets.
He gave us lots of useful tips and advice to help us plan our trip in the short time we had.
Along with the informative videos provided as part of the booking, he helped us to have a great experience on K’gari.
The contact with the team provided us with great service and gave us all the information on driving times we needed.
The 4x4 we were provided with was clean, had raised tyres and worked perfectly on the beach and on the bumpy hard going inland tracks.
They are perfect for the conditions, on K’gari.
You can see their mechanics when you arrive constantly working on their fleet to keep them in good working condition.
The Tent we hired was easy to set up and was in perfect working order.
Rainbow beach 4x4 has quite simply a strong reputation for providing great service because they do.

We got valuable information on itineraries on the island and does/not to. During a steep climb inland the LC 100 experienced a boiling radiator. We called RB and got advice what to do. We could finish our trip without further incidents. Apparently the LC could not cope driving in sand uphill on this stretch. We had to shorten our planned trip for that day due to time lost. No issues with the support from RB over the phone, good to know they have a recovery service on the island. Was surprised the LC could not handle the climb, was an older model.

Hi there,
Thank you for your review. I am not totally familiar with the scenario you are detailing here - but it is possible that during the very dry summer months (like over Christmas) that the conditions can be very very harsh on the Island. Sometimes if driving in the very soft sand for a long period of time the engine can get quite hot - but we do try to reduce this by asking our customers to drive only at low tide.
All in all I am glad you had a good time on the island and that our recovery service did its job while you were in trouble.

Merv from Rainbow Beach 4 x 4 Hire was excellent to deal with from our first enquiry through to returning the equipment. He was knowledgeable, organized, and extremely helpful in all areas of the trip. The cars were well maintained and set up for Fraser Island, all the permits were pre-organized, and the camping equipment adequate for our needs. The first night poured rain and our tents stayed nice and dry through out difficult conditions. Merv also threw in an extra tent and blow up mattresses which made sleeping much more comfortable. We found the cost of the trip to be fair for what what we did. I would highly recommend Rainbow Beach 4 x 4 Hire for your holiday. The teenage kids loved the adventure even with inclement weather. We hope to visit again and would use Rainbow Beach 4 x 4 hire without hesitation.

Fantastic Trip to Fraser, great 4wd tracks, beautiful rainforest and bush and Lake Mckenzie is a must see.
Thanks to Merve at Rainbow Beach Hire who kept in touch pre trip and made sure we had everything we needed including park permit and barge tickets. He also made the handover process easy and light with a great sense of humour. The Landcruiser was clean and great to drive and although they we had a steering lock issue on Day 3 the mechanic came quickly and a replacement vehicle was also with us quickly. Nice to know you have that back up and if things do go wrong there is some one close by on the island to solve it for you. Merve again called us after the trip just to check everything was good and the return of the bond...great service.

A great experience all-round with Rainbow beach 4x4 Hire. Merv was super helpful, very knowledgeable, and accommodating. Great advice on where to go and what to do with the time we had available. Prices were reasonable and the vehicles are solid and well adapted to driving on K'gari. I always felt confident driving on the sand and bush tracks with the vehicle. Nice to know they have your back with towing and a spare vehicle on the island should you ever need it. If you are thinking should I go? - yes!
