You can drive right to the lake in a normal car though it is a dirt road. To get all the way around you will need a 4WD. You can walk around, but like all of Stradbroke is in sand. Easy walk though. Looks very clean and pretty.

This place is truly mesmerising..again the energy here is tip-top..very beautifully looked after and cared for by the Quandamooka land custodians... this for me was another listening experience... I was bit chicken to go swimming after reading about the giant carpet snake that protects the place..I was the only one there,so my mind got a bit carried away with crazy thoughts I might get eaten...lol

Wonderful fresh water lake for family to visit. For the first hour we were the only ones there, it was lovely and quiet, the kids played on the sand/close to shore. Tip - take a picnic and bottle of wine and stay a few hours.

Disappointed to find that the wood/fire bbqs we have enjoyed using during other stays have been removed and not replaced with gas or electric bbqs. As we'd only brought uncooked sausages we left to find another picnic spot. Otherwise a lovely spot for a swim and a no cooking picnic.

Brown lake, rich in Tannin from the ti trees is also a special place for the Aborigines. It is a safe swimming place with sandy underfoot for paddlers, and its surrounded by ti trees and secluded

Good to visit if you don’t want that salty feeling as the brown lake is tea tree leaves. Much warmer too and flat so good for little kids and has a few shady areas for lunch.

It's a short drive but worth the effort. The cool water and vast expanse of beauty makes this a great place for a family picnic

Brown Lake is easily accessible by car - the dirt road at the end is well graded but dusty. There is plenty of parking and toilets (long drop eco toilets) are clean and acceptable though not luxurious.
There is a playground , picnic tables and bbq and a great clean beach. Water is warm, tadpoles abound and it is a natural paradise. Thankfully it has not been "tidied up" with marked parking bays, boardwalks, steps or other modern trends but remains natural with goannas swaggering around.
Go, relax, enjoy!

What a gem of a place for families with small children, or you like to kayak or canoe.
Lots of shade, playground, picnic tables, good toilets & lovely white sand!
Such a beautiful, peaceful spot!
Highly recommend if its too windy at the beaches.

We stopped by with some fish and chips. There were plenty of picnic tables to sit at while watching wildlife like goanna and ducks.
There was a playground for the kids and tadpoles to catch (and release) which kept them happy for hours.
The water was shallow for a good distance which is perfect for little kids. And a nice sandy shoreline for sand castles.
Overall. A lovely spot for families.

The road to the lake is sealed until you take the turn off. After that, it's dirt with potholes. With a bit of care, these would be easy to ride around.
