We finished our visit to Penola with a wander down Petticoat Lane, where we were amazed by the work done by the National Trust. Don't miss this historic part of Penola.

Petticoat Lane is situated not far at all from the motel in which we were staying during a recent long weekend visit to Penola. Therefore, we had the opportunity to visit this fascinating lane of old cottages on two occasions. Each of the cottages located along the lane have something of particular interest associated with them. Whether it is the... More

We were staying nearby and walked the short distance to look at Petticoat Lane. We were the only visitors mid week. Was interesting to see the old homes of days gone by and realize how lucky we are today. I wouldn't have survived those harsh living conditions. A lot of current young people would do well to take a look... More

Rode down this quiet street on our bikes and stopped to check out the cottages, which were open even though no-one was around, but they did have cameras set up. Found them very interesting to wander through and imaging the life people lived in them and the large families they had all under one room - extraordinary people they were.... More

What a lovely historical street! Definitely worth a drive through. Each of the houses is labelled with information about its history, and the street is decorated with colourful woollen designs. Very sweet.

Petticoat Lane has a number of NT properties, some open as businesses and one cottage available as accommodation. One property has a wonderful garden at the back. Sponsored by Local chefs and tended by NT volunteers. Borrow scissors, grab a bag, leave a donation and pick a great variety of herbs. In other months fruit and veg that is harvested... More

The collection of settlers cottages is like a step back in time. You can imagine and feel what life would have been like for the early settlers. One cottage has an excellent herb, vegetable and fruit tree garden. Produce can be picked and paid for with a gold coin donation.

To think of a family of 18 people living in one of these is a bit mind boggling. The construction techniques were fascinating. Well presented.
